**🌍 Connecting locals and internationals in London 🌍**
Join us every Tuesday evening in Holborn for the London Language Exchange, where over 60 people gather each week to practice new languages, share cultures, and make new friends.
See pics of our previous events on our [Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/babblelondon), and chat to other members who are coming via our [whatsapp group](https://languagexchanges.com/whatsapp/).
**🙋 Who is this for?**
All languages and levels are welcome, and we are inclusive of all ages, races, religions etc. Whether you're a polyglot, a beginner just starting with Duolingo Spanish, or you just want to come and socialise, you will be welcomed to our community of language learners and international friends.
**🙌 What to Expect:**
* **Language Practice:** Whether you’re fluent in Spanish, Italian, English, Arabic, Russian, Mandarin, or any other language, our hosts will help you connect with people who match your language interests.
* **Friendly Hosts:** Our hosts will greet you at the entrance, give you a label where you can write the language(s) you speak and the ones you’d like to learn or practice.
* **Inclusive Atmosphere:** We welcome all languages and levels, and make sure everyone feels comfortable—especially if you're coming alone! It’s a relaxed environment perfect for making new friends and practising languages at your own pace.
* **Socialising:** Coming alone or with friends, this is a great opportunity to meet new people in the city. Unlike some other meetup ‘groups’, we do not fill our events with fake members, and you can check how many people attend each week via our [Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/babblelondon).
**👋 How does it work?**
* **Arrive!** No need to register, just come to our event any time between 7-9pm and our event host will welcome you. They will have an orange lanyard and will be sitting next to our sign.
* **Write your ‘Language Label’.** Here you can write your name, the languages you are learning, and the languages you can help others with.
* **Pay.** Our £1 event fee pays for our lovely event hosts and keeps the event going. Card only please.
* **Get talking!** With the help of our host you will be able to find other people attending the event with compatible language interests - we are all very friendly and the majority of our attendees come alone, so there’s no need to worry about getting involved!
**📌 Where are we?**
We’re normally located in the downstairs room of The Penderel's Oak Pub, 283-288 High Holborn, London WC1V 7HP [https://g.co/kgs/57H1Wbr](https://g.co/kgs/57H1Wbr)
However, always check the location on this meetup event and in our [WhatsApp Group](https://languagexchanges.com/whatsapp) just in case there is a change.
**💡 Important Info:** Please disregard the attendee numbers shown on Meetup or Facebook. Because we meet at the same time and place every week, many regulars do not sign up beforehand, but we always have a great turnout, often exceeding 70 people. We also have many more participants who join through other platforms.

MAY Classic: The Encyclopedia of the Dead - Danilo Kiš
New members are always welcome. :)
**Description:**
***The Encyclopedia of the Dead*** ([Serbo-Croatian](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serbo-Croatian "Serbo-Croatian"): *Enciklopedija mrtvih*) is a collection of nine stories by Yugoslav author [Danilo Kiš](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danilo_Ki%C5%A1 "Danilo Kiš"). Combining history and fiction in what critics have seen as a postmodern fashion, the stories (which have been compared to the work of [Jorge Luis Borges](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jorge_Luis_Borges "Jorge Luis Borges")) have helped cement Kiš's legacy as one of the most important 20th-century Yugoslav authors.

In May 2025, Cinema Mentiré launched **[Daring to Dare](https://www.cinemamentire.co.uk/daring-to-dare-the-films-of-maria-luisa-bemberg)**, a retrospective of trailblazing Argentinian filmmaker **María Luisa Bemberg** (1922-1995) to celebrate her extraordinary legacy on the 30th anniversary of her passing. The programme opened at Ciné Lumière and then toured Bath, Belfast, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow, London (again), and Oxford.
After a year-long journey across the UK, we return to London for the final chapter with a very special wrap-up of the series at The Garden Cinema!
**MISS MARY** (1986, 102min.)
📆 Tuesday, 26 May, at 6.00pm
Julie Christie is Miss Mary, an English governess who travels to Argentina in the late 1930s to raise the children of an aristocratic and chaotic family.
These screenings form part of a [wider season commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 1976 Argentine coup](https://www.thegardencinema.co.uk/season/50-years-of-argentina-on-film/), running from 8 May to 19 June at The Garden Cinema. The programme brings together classic thrillers, offbeat comedies and documentaries, accompanied by Q&As and introductions that explore how Argentine society has grappled with the aftermath of the coup in the 5 decades that followed.
Check it out also the screening of **[NOBODY'S WIFE](https://www.thegardencinema.co.uk/film/senora-de-nadie-nobodys-wife-intro/)** on 21 May, a revolutionary film following the journey of Leonor after an unpleasant discovery that puts her life upside down.

Tuesday Hot Choc Mob
Join Us for a Hot Choc Mob Evening!
We’ll be hitting the streets of London with something simple but powerful: warm drinks, snacks, and human connection.
The Hot Choc Mob is a group of volunteers who believe a small act of kindness can mean a lot to someone sleeping rough or living through a tough time. We’re not a charity or religious group—just people who care and want to make a difference in our city.
You don’t need any experience to join us. You’ll be welcomed by our walk leader and introduced to the group. From there, we’ll spend about an hour sharing hot chocolate, food, clothing, and friendly conversation with people who need it most. Afterwards, if you’d like to stay, we’ll regroup at a local pub to share stories and get to know each other.
Items to bring along that are highly appreciated include bottled water or juice, soft fruit, tinned sardines, new socks, boxer shorts and t-shirts.
And if you have a flask for hot water - instant coffee, tea bags, instant hot chocolate, sugar and milk enable us to make hot drinks for those we meet.
If you can’t attend but still want to support us, we also have an
[Amazon Wishlist](https://www.amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/ls/3T0FPY3DHUG9A?type=wishlist&filter=all&sort=priority&viewType=list)
for essential items.
This is your chance to make a real impact in someone’s day while meeting like-minded people who care about community and connection. Spaces are limited, so click RSVP now and join us for an evening that truly matters.

Queer Spirit Full Moon Circle
Last drum circle of the season! We've met at the Wheatsheaf Hall every month since October, journeying through the huge cosmic shift underway in the skies and in the human spirit - let's make May 30th a celebration of Spring in its full glory and cast our spells for the summer months ahead.
Radical Faeries and Queer Spirits gather in south London at the Full Moon in Sagittarius, a time when the Gemini Sun and Sagittarius Moon bring our attention to the union of the lower and higher mind - our individual and collective consciousness. Through the drum rhythms and trance dancing we unite the body, mind, heart and spirit. As we play, we heal, we feel our interconnectedness, we become whole.
Uranus, the queerest planet of the solar system, has recently completed 8 years in Taurus - a place where his liberating energy meets resistance. The last time Uranus was in Taurus was 1934-42, and just like that period, his Taurean sojourn this time has seen the rise of authoritarian leaders and attacks on LGTBQ+ rights. But now Uranus is free to express himself again in the air energy of Gemini, where he will be until 2032. At the drum circle let's celebrate the liberation of the Uranian spirit. Shokti has studied the parallels between the transits of Uranus and the cause of LGBTQ liberation -with uncanny results that might suggest that, as Plato wrote and Edward Carpenter and other 19th century queers celebrated, we really are the people of Aphrodite Urania - [read more here](https://rainbowmessenger.blog/2025/05/22/uranus-is-the-queerest-planet/)
We gather from 7 to set up the space and greet each other, cast a circle at 8pm then we drum, dance, socialise and play through the evening.
There's lots of drums and percussion to share around, you are welcome to bring your own instruments too, your own refreshments and maybe snacks to share.
Entry suggested £5 - £10, cash at the venue, or via PayPal [PayPal.Me](https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/shokti)
NOTAFLOF - No One Turned Away For Lack Of Funds.

Queer Spirit Circle has been bringing spiritual queers together to make magic since 2005, and at the Wheatsheaf Hall since Winter Solstice 2012. Usually around 50 or more people come along and the rhythms and dancing can get ecstatic.
