Hi 👋 I'm Younes. A few weeks ago I started a challenge to have coffee with 100 strangers. This group is a way for me to achieve that. Why ? You might ask. And to that, I say why not ? Talking to strangers is both scary and exciting. Scary because we fear the awkward silence, the awkward laughs, and the awkward small talk. Exciting because we discover new life stories, new life perspectives and just whole new world. My argument is the exciting part is way more rewarding than scary part. Come with an open/deep/emotional/complex thought and vulnerability. ● Ask open-ended questions and invite the other person to describe what a situation was like for them or how they felt. ● Don't hesitate to be vulnerable and share information about yourself if needed. Consider sharing personal information first to gain the other person's trust. ● Adopt an attitude of curiosity and genuine interest in what the other person is saying. Be thoughtful and try to put yourself in the other person's shoes so that you can see things from their perspective. Be truthful, caring and honest. ● Listen actively and ask follow-up questions. ● Be empathetic and offer emotional validation so that they feel seen and heard. Columbus Code & Coffee is an inclusive, informal co-working session. People of all skill levels attend, and we love it that way.
