You write your name and what language you speak and what language you would like to exchange. ***GRAB A DRINK AND YOU ARE ALL SET TO FLEX YOUR LANGUAGE CAPACITY. YOU NEED TO GET AT LEAST A DRINK OR FOOD :) To get the event going and show support. We know that you like our events. Join the National Museum of the American Latino on Saturday, April 18, from 10:30 AM–5 PM to celebrate our new exhibition, ¡Puro Ritmo! The Musical Journey of Salsa, and enjoy an afternoon of music, dance, and activities throughout the museum. The program will include salsa dance lessons, a guided gallery tour of the exhibition, family activities, a West African percussion performance and a live salsa concert. Visitors can also attend a listening session guided by prominent salseros and family story time. All ages are welcome.

We are honored to host Jaime Echt from The Crafter's Workshop for our annual Creative Minds Summit. Whether you’re new to Stencil Butters® or a longtime fan, this class is going to bring your Mixed-Media/Art Journaling game up a notch. You’re going to start by making a color swatch ring of all your favorite colors (and there are over 40 colors to choose from.) This’ll give you a chance to see how colors interact with water and other modifiers. Plus it’ll be a great reference tool to take home with you. From there you’ll create one or more frameable pieces of art. Jaime will walk you through technique after technique, from mark-making to stenciling, from dry brush to wet palette knife, and everything in between. A highly-requested returning teacher, Kecia Deveney, joins us for our annual Creative Minds Summit. Stitched After Printing: Gelli-Printed Fabric Creatures is welcoming to all levels and celebrates imperfection, texture, and personal voice. We’ll begin by printing directly onto fabric using Gelli Arts plates, layering color, pattern, and marks to create a surface full of history and movement. From there, the printed cloth becomes the foundation for a soft sculptural figure. Hand stitching, fabric collage, and simple mark making will bring each figure to life — wonky, expressive, and entirely unique. These are not perfect dolls; they are character-filled beings shaped by process and intuition. What you’ll learn: monoprinting layered designs on fabric using a polymer printing plate; intuitive mark making with paint and simple tools; shaping printed cloth into a soft sculptural figure; hand stitching for structure, detail, and expression; creating faces and personality through texture and stitches; trusting the process and letting a piece unfold naturally.
