**Reinforcement Learning** bezeichnet eine Disziplin, in der künstliche Agenten durch Interaktion mit ihrer Umwelt in der Lage sind, selbstständig zu lernen, welche Aktion in einer gegebenen Situation optimal ist, um ein gewisses Ziel bestmöglich zu erreichen. Dadurch konnten in einigen Disziplinen bereits Agenten trainiert werden, die besser abschneiden als ihre menschlichen Gegenstücke. Spannend ist, dass solche Methoden selbstständig, also ohne menschliche Überwachung, in der Lage sind, neuartige Lösungsstrategien zu entwickeln und deshalb enormes Potenzial für vielfältige Anwendungen bieten.
