Queer & Neurodiverse aims to offer a variety of social events for people of all genders, sexualities and ages (18+). We would like to provide opportunities for people to form meaningful connections in the real world. Whether you're a social butterfly, or a bit of a wallflower, we hope to create a pressure free space where you can just be yourself. Please join us for a relaxed social picnic at Footscray Park with some fellow queer and neurodiverse pals! Bring some food for yourself, or something to share, and a blanket/chair. Your hosts, Ben & Hamish, are both experienced mental health professionals who live with neurodiversity. We are both passionate about providing inclusive, friendly, and accessible spaces within our community. Discrimination, bullying, and harassment will not be tolerated. Please join us this Sunday as we discuss the merits of economic liberty. **We will meet at the Queensberry Hotel, 593 Swanston Street, Carlton (100m north of previous location) at 2pm for a 2:15pm start sharp.** **We kindly ask attendees to pay $5 to attend to help with MeetUp costs & venue costs. Picture the Grand Ball scenes like you’ve seen in period films such as “Pride and Prejudice”, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. That’s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like “swing your partner” and “do-si-do,” like you’ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alá “Riverdance.” Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THAT’s Contra Dancing! Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor.
