#This meetup is around a third-party organizer (Lux Nijmegen): you need to purchase your ticket online before # **Curious about the best short films of the moment? Go Short is back at LUX Nijmegen!** Since the festival schedule is huge, I picked out two blocks from the European Competition for the meetup. **Here is the plan:** * **19:15 – 20:45 \| Block 1: EU Comp 3** https://www.goshort.nl/en/festival-program/block?programId=2982&viewingId=5093 * **21:15 – 22:45 \| Block 2: EU Comp 4** https://www.goshort.nl/en/festival-program/block?programId=2983&viewingId=5102 Feel free to drop in for just one of the blocks, or stay for the double feature. **Ticket Info:** Tickets must be purchased online in advance. Shut Up & Write! [Amsterdam/ IJburg]
Shut Up & Write! [Amsterdam/ IJburg]
Join us for an hour of writing! We’ve discovered that it’s strikingly helpful to write with other writers. See if it’s true for you at Factor-ij Amsterdam on Thursday mornings. Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done. SCHEDULE: 11: 15 AM - Quick introductions 11: 30 AM - Timer starts: write for 1 hour 12: 30 PM - The End: chat, take off, or keep writing OPTIONAL SOCIALIZING happens at 12:30 pm after the writing is wrapped. Writing is very solitary. Connecting (and sometimes even commiserating) with other writers is a cool thing. BEING LATE IS OKAY: just show up and get settled, then check-in with me after the session. (I’ll be the person with the Shut Up & Write! sign.) If you were on time, please be willing to make room for the friendly latecomer. Happy writing and I look forward to seeing you at Factor-ij! What Should I Bring? Whatever you need to be able to write! Bring earbuds/earplugs if you want to block the cafe’s overhead music or the occasional conversation by other patrons. Please come with your devices pre-charged, since we probably won't be always sitting somewhere with charging possibilities. Other Important Details: Travel by public transportation: 1. Take Tram 26 from the central station Amsterdam, and step out by the last stop. 2. Take bus 66 from the Amsterdam Bijlmer station, step out by Pieter Oosterhuisstraat, and further walk in the direction of the bus till the corner. FREE Wifi. Compulsory consumption is not required, but please do order a drink to honor our generous host.
Meetup in Den Bosch - File Uploads & REST, Frankenphp & web assembly
Meetup in Den Bosch - File Uploads & REST, Frankenphp & web assembly
We would like to welcome you for our next BrabantPHP meetup. This meetup will take place in Den Bosch at Projuice Learning. Starting time: 19:00 (with food). **Talk - File Uploads and REST** So you have built your fancy JSON REST API, maybe even add a fancy OpenAPI spec of your API. And then you have to add file functionality to your REST API. You will notice that your API is not made for file uploads. What is the proper strategy to handle file uploads in a REST API? This talk is interesting for backend developers and API designers who work with REST APIs and need to support file uploads. If you’ve ever built a clean JSON API and then struggled with adding file upload functionality, this session will give you practical insights and strategies for handling it properly. You’ll especially benefit if you: * Build or maintain REST APIs * Work with PHP or other backend technologies * Care about good API design and developer experience File uploads may seem simple, but integrating them into a REST architecture introduces several design challenges that many developers encounter in real-world applications. **About Pieter Jordaan:** Pieter Jordaan is lead developer at Paqt and already active in PHP for 15 years. Pieter Jordaan worked with many PHP frameworks which gives him a good idea about different perspectives and solutions for handling a problem. The last 2 years he worked silently on his open source library Apie to have better tooling for Domain Objects. **Second talk - Frankenphp meets Web assembly** By Johnny van de Laar During the Dutch PHP conference the keynote by Johan Janssens showed different ways to use Frankenphp. During this small talk I will make an attempt to show some of the examples of how to use web assembly plugins within Frankenphp. I will also talk briefly about all different ways PHP van be used these days. **About the sponsor:** Projuice Learning is a SaaS platform that helps companies professionalize internal training. Our software is widely used in the food industry to structure onboarding, manage skills and qualifications, and support continuous employee development. From our office in ’s-Hertogenbosch, we build and improve Projuice with a small and dedicated team of developers. **About the location:** The location is at the Projuice Learning office near the Den Bosch train station, **Koningsweg 2** in **Den Bosch**. It's within walking distance of the train station. Parking is possible at the office, they are free parking spots. **About the meetup:** * attending the meetup is free (as in free beer); * free food (pizza) and free drinks are provided!; * food is available between 19:00 and 19:30; * the talk will start at 19:30; * spoken language is English unless not necessary; * suitable for novice to expert level;

IN-PERSON Book Club Meeting - KAFKA ON THE SHORE by Haruki Murakami
IN-PERSON Book Club Meeting - KAFKA ON THE SHORE by Haruki Murakami
'KAFKA ON THE SHORE' by Haruki Murakami 'The aging Nakata, tracker of lost cats, who never recovered from a bizarre childhood affliction, finds his pleasantly simplified life suddenly turned upside down. There is a savage killing, but the identity of both victim and killer is a riddle. Kafka on the Shore follows the fortunes of two remarkable characters. Kafka Tamura runs away from home at fifteen, under the shadow of his father's dark prophesy. The aging Nakata, tracker of lost cats, who never recovered from a bizarre childhood affliction, finds his pleasantly simplified life suddenly turned upside down. Their parallel odysseys are enriched throughout by vivid accomplices and mesmerising dramas. Cats converse with people; fish tumble from the sky; a ghostlike pimp deploys a Hegel-spouting girl of the night; a forest harbours soldiers apparently un-aged since WWII. There is a savage killing, but the identity of both victim and killer is a riddle. Murakami's new novel is at once a classic tale of quest, but it is also a bold exploration of mythic and contemporary taboos, of patricide, of mother-love, of sister-love. Above all it is an entertainment of a very high order.' ***Please read the book and join us for a lively discussion (in English) about the contents during our afternoon book club meeting.*** \-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\- **PLEASE NOTE:** This is an IN-PERSON event in Amersfoort, The Netherlands. Create. Express. Unwind - Art & Self-Expression for Women — No Experience Needed
This is a facilitated creative session — not a class. You'll receive a starting prompt, access to paint, collage materials, texture, and colour, then two and a half hours to follow whatever feels right. No instruction. No judgement. No wrong moves. I designed this for women who spend their days in logic, deadlines, or high performance — and who have quietly stopped making things just for the joy of it. This session is permission to start again. We work in a small, intentional group. Music plays. Tea is ready. What you make is entirely yours. ### ✅ What's Included * All creative materials (paint, canvas cards, collage, pastels, mixed media) * A starting prompt to spark your session * Curated ambient music and calm space * Tea, coffee, and light bites * Your finished work to take home * Optional group sharing at the end. *** ### 🎒 What to Bring * Yourself and an open mind * Comfortable clothes you don't mind getting paint on * Nothing else — everything is provided ### 📋 Activity Itinerary | Step | Title | What happens | | ---- | ----- | ------------ | | 1 | Welcome & settle in | Tea, introductions, no pressure | | 2 | Meet your materials | Explore what's on the table | | 3 | Receive your prompt | One sentence to start from serving as a gateway to the experience | | 4 | Make freely | 60 min of creative flow time | | 5 | Reflect & share | Optional — share or just explore what others created | | 6 | Wrap up | Take your work, leave lighter |
[Nijmegen] Go Short : Global South Futurisms
[Nijmegen] Go Short : Global South Futurisms
#This meetup is around a third-party organizer (Lux Nijmegen): you need to purchase your ticket online before # Curious about the best short films of the moment? Go Short is back at LUX Nijmegen! **The Global South Futurisms block will be screened on Friday.** Long dominated by Eurocentric cinematic traditions, science fiction has often served as a fantasy of conquest for the white man. Yet, in the hands of filmmakers from the Global Majority, the genre shifts register. Drawing on currents such as Arabfuturism, the films in this programme use speculative fiction as a way of thinking through generational and environmental wounds in ways realism cannot hold. In effect, the “fiction” of science-fiction becomes a powerful means of comprehension, where fabulation helps offer new political imaginaries. Other Skies invites audiences to witness speculative fiction in new hands—restless, incisive, and unmistakably its own. **Information:** I will be at the LUX entrance from 21:00. Following the screening, there is the option to join the Go Short free after-party at Cafe de Plak! **Link:** https://www.goshort.nl/en/festival-program/block?programId=2821&viewingId=5092 **Ticket Info:** Tickets must be purchased online in advance. **Tickets:** https://ticket.goshort.nl/nl-NL/Show/Details/GS-Other-Skies-Global-South-Futurisms-10-apr-837434 **More info**: [https://www.goshort.nl/en/go-short-festival-2026](https://www.goshort.nl/en/go-short-festival-2026) Hope to see you soon!

Semi in honor of March being International Women's Month Columbus libraries: [https://cml.bibliocommons.com/v2/record/S105C3454709](https://cml.bibliocommons.com/v2/record/S105C3454709) Location: SOW Plated Menu: [https://www.sowplated.com/menu-brunch/](https://www.sowplated.com/menu-brunch/) Book summary: In 2006 Julia Lerner is living in Moscow, a recent university graduate in computer science, when she's recruited by Russia's largest intelligence agency. By 2018 she's in Silicon Valley as COO of Tangerine, one of America's most famous technology companies. In between her executive management (make offers to promising startups, crush them and copy their features if they refuse); self promotion (check out her latest op-ed in the WSJ, on Work/Life Balance 2.0); and work in gender equality (transfer the most annoying females from her team), she funnels intelligence back to the motherland. But now Russia's asking for more, and Julia's getting nervous. Alice Lu is a first generation Chinese American whose parents are delighted she's working at Tangerine (such a successful company!). Too bad she's slogging away in the lower echelons, recently dumped, and now sharing her expensive two-bedroom apartment with her cousin Cheri, a perennial "founder's girlfriend". One afternoon, while performing a server check, Alice discovers some unusual activity, and now she's burdened with two powerful but distressing suspicions: Tangerine's privacy settings aren't as rigorous as the company claims they are, and the person abusing this loophole might be Julia Lerner herself. The closer Alice gets to Julia, the more Julia questions her own loyalties. Russia may have placed her in the Valley, but she's the one who built her career; isn't she entitled to protect the lifestyle she's earned?

Bad Girls Book Club April 2026
Bad Girls Book Club April 2026
**Our April novel is: *The Hong Kong Widow* by Kristen Loesch** **This month’s novel blends gothic atmosphere with historical fiction and chilling horror, set against the haunting backdrop of China. The book is 368 pages in print and 10 hours and 42 minutes on audiobook.** In 1950s Hong Kong, Mei is a young refugee of the Chinese Communist revolution struggling to put her past in Shanghai behind her. When she receives a shocking invitation—to take part in a competition in one of the city's most notorious haunted houses, pitting six spirit mediums against one another in a series of six séances over six nights, until a single winner emerges—she has every reason to refuse. Except that the hostess, a former Shanghainese silent film star, is none other than the wife of the man who once destroyed Mei’s entire life. It is promised the winner will receive a fortune, but there is only one prize Mei wants: revenge. Decades later, the final night of that competition has become an infamous urban legend: The police were called to the scene of a brutal massacre but found no evidence, dismissing it as a collective hallucination. Mei knows what she saw, but now someone else is convinced they know what she did. She must uncover the truth about the last night she ever spent in that house—even if the ghosts of her past are waiting for her there. . . .
