Creative Writing Friday Workshop
Creative Writing Friday Workshop
CORONA VIRUS UPDATE: Take advantage of social distancing by focusing on creative endeavors! These workshops are a wonderful way to stay inspired and connected from the safety of your home. They will now be taking place via Zoom and an RSVP will give you the link to join. If you're curious about writing, now is the time to join our workshops. We have openings in two groups, one meeting Wednesday evenings 6:30 to 9:30 pm and the other Friday mornings 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. In our healthy future we will meet at my home in Temescal District, Oakland as well as long distance participants online. You are invited to come to a workshop, for free, and find out how well it works for you. These groups have been meeting for forty years. We combine insights from Dorothea Brandt's Becoming a Writer (1934) and Peter Elbow's Writing Without Teachers (1973). We use inspired guidance from Diane di Prima's "Rant" from Pieces of a Song (2001), which proposes that we, each of us, come into this world with our own cosmology. This cosmology is a birthright and needs no alteration. Our writer's journey involves finding our view of the world, giving it respect, developing it, and expressing it in its own terms. Much inspired writing comes from these workshops. Many writers have opened doors into huge arenas of vivid stories, poems, essays, and novels they had no idea exist. Many of our participants have become published authors, including one American Book Award winner. Why do these groups work? Because we embrace the creative unconscious as the source of our inspiration, in accordance with Carl Jung's vision. And we give it simple appreciation. In these groups your first drafts, even very rough drafts, are read as portals into vivid, energetic writing. Our job is to help you go through the portals and gain confidence that you are the right person to do this -- to delve into your own creativity. Your unique way is the way that's best for your material. Clive began his writing career among the Beat Generation in 1960s New York City, mentored by Allen Ginsberg, John Wieners and Diane Di Prima, who published his first book, Mainline to the Heart. Clive’s foundation in Modernism, and his MFA from Columbia University, have supported a 40+ year career as one of the premier creative writing teachers that is unrivaled. He is among the last writers who lived the experience of the culmination of Modernism and will bring that experience to the workshops. You will be the creator as Clive elicits your response to the prompts that will unleash your own writer’s muse. And you will get feedback and advice with far more understanding and support than is usual in writing classes. As one participant has written, "Thank you, Clive, for creating and holding the sacred space where decomposition of creative self-doubt can occur, and up-lifting, cultivation and refinement of one’s voice can rise up." Phone Clive at 510-508-5149 or email him at clive@matsonpoet.com for more information on the workshops. Check out Clive's website, www.matsonpoet.com to learn more about Clive and his writing.

Gentle end of the week – half hour only - Online exercise class and chat after
This exercise session is aimed at people over 50. Our exercises are gentle but effective. There will be no floor exercises in this session, but you can expect to work hard! Not exercised for a while? Painful knees or hips? Or just like to end your week with some gentle movement? This class will be a great place to start. No fast, jerky movements, but this will still be a good workout for all levels. Beginners and experienced participants are equally welcome. We will combine chair exercises with standing exercises, designed to strengthen your muscles to help support your joints and improve your balance and flexibility. We will end this session with a chat, just making time to check in with each other and discuss the week and the weekend ahead. • ca 1.5x1.5 meter space to move around. • tablet, laptop or computer screen with internet connection • two water bottles, cans, or small hand weights • a straight kitchen or dining room chair without armrests. My rates 10 session card: My normal rate is £89 for 10 sessions. (different rates apply for my Parkinson’s classes) Pay monthly: Sign up for unlimited sessions per week, for a flat rate of £70 per month if paid monthly in advance. Pay What Works: The price shown above is the “true” value of the session that best reflects the work I put into preparing and leading your session. However, I understand that not everyone can afford to pay full price, and I don’t want that to stop you from joining us. In an effort to find a balance between more financial accessibility and sustainable pricing, I now offer a “Pay What Works” model. This allows for financial flexibility while still valuing and respecting the work and energy I provide in creating and delivering these classes. You tell me what you would like to pay: For your new payment, please let me know if you are happy to pay full price, or if you would like a reduction Please send an email to ailien@fitandhappyoutdoors.com with the heading “INVOICE please”- followed by “FAHO 1” to pay full price as quoted below, “FAHO 2”, for 20% off, or “FAHO 3” for 50% off. And please tell me if you want to pay for 10 sessions, or if you’d like to pay monthly. I prefer payment by bank transfer. At the moment I do not accept cheques. The queues by the banks are just too long. When you sign up, I will send you the link and the password you will need to join this session! Like many others my work has been severely affected by the Corona quarantine, when it stopped my normal work from one day to the next. As I am self employed, I have no other means of income. By joining this class you help me pay my bills, and I appreciate that enormously!

Charlotte H3 Trail #1239 - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!!!!
Charlotte H3 Trail #1239 - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!!!!
We are the Charlotte chapter of the international Hash House Harriers (CH3), which is an adult-humored, non-competitive running group. "A Drinking club with a running problem" Hashing is a mixture of athleticism and sociability, fun having and hard work; a refreshing break from the nine-to-five routine. Hashing is an exhilaratingly fun combination of r\*nning, orienteering, and partying, where bands of Harriers and Harriettes chase Hares on two to four mile trails through town, country, jungle, and desert, all in search of exercise, camaraderie, and good times. The irreverent group typically gets together to humorously note on-trail misbehavior with tongue-in-cheek drinking songs and “down downs”. We meet up at 2 PM on Saturdays and go on a scavenger hunt through the woods and town, for beers that have been hidden by one of our members. There is no cost for your first visit, so put on some old sneakers, long socks, weather appropriate gear, and come have a beer with us! **Theme: Earth Day/Recycle/Clothing Swap!** **In honor of Earth Day (April 22nd) we are doing a hash gear revival/swap/spring cleaning your closet!** **Hare: Ballgag and Dungeons and Strap ons** **Special guest appearance by; Squeaky who will take on whatever gets left behind and find a new beautiful purpose for it.** **Time: 2 pm** **Location: 3100 Winterfield Place Go all the way down the road til you see the sign for Winterfield park** **SPECIAL NOTE; We will be adjacent to a lot of parks so keep that in mind for parking and overall behavior you fucking fucks.** **Hash Cash: $10** **venmo - @justin-walter-6** **Trail Type: Springy** **Shiggy: Very. 4/5 although no planned water crossing.** **Turds: If they're good with shiggy** **Extra Credit: Nah.** **What to Bring: Shiggy socks, carinum grear, sunscreen, vessels, bug spray and finally;** **Old hash clothing and or accessories to pass down to them young hashers. Hike Blacklick Woods and The Canopy. Optional lunch after.
Over time I'm hoping to organize a hike to all the Franklin County Metro Parks. This is the first one so if you're interested jump in! We'll start with the Canopy Walk, a cool feature of this park. Climb 100 stairs to the top - or take the elevator if stairs aren't your thing. At the top there are a bunch of things to play on - a rope bridge, a fireman pole that we can slide down - and more! About fifteen minutes there and we'll head to the natural trail, Buttonbush, Maple and Beech Trail for 2.2 miles then do a 1.7 mile loop on the paved Greenway Trail. We'll be passing our cars as we transition if you only want to do the first loop, or the second loop. Pace of around 3.5 mph but no one left behind. If there is an interest we can grab lunch nearby afterward.
