About the volunteer for this series: **Maija** will be the lead of the Basic Sailing Theory series. Born and raised in Siberia, in the heart of the world's largest landmass, about 2000 km from the nearest ocean, she dreamed of sailing ever since she learned that countries have laws and oceans are not countries. Drawn to what felt like the last wild and lawless frontier, she started sailing three years ago. After covering several thousand miles at sea, she has learned that water demands more constraint, discipline and respect for rules than land ever did. This is her first experimental attempt at sharing some of those rules.
