Are you looking to try out ceramics or up-skill your existing knowledge? Look no further! This workshop is standalone or you can book a block of 4 that need not be consecutive. It takes place in a very spacious and bright studio and you are welcomed to come with your own ideas or simply follow along and let your creativity blossom during the mindful 3 hours of making. The main technique used during the session is hand-building giving you the option to create functional ware or small sculptural work. Beginners will be guided through the process using techniques such as slab building, coiling, pinching, texturing and surface decoration. The more advanced will be free to create and those with experience throwing would be welcomed to use the wheel which would need to be reserved in advance. Those of you who would like to learn about glazing would need to book 2 workshops. The workshops are mainly run in English but I do speak Catalan and Spanish. They also provide a great opportunity for non-native speakers to practice their English. **Continuem amb un maig BESTIAL!** I us hem preparat una escapada molt especial, al **Matarranya, a la província de Teruel**, per gaudir d’un **espectacle únic al món**, per conèixer un projecte espectacular. Si, visitarem el **Mas de Bunyol, un observatori de voltors**, i coneixerem els seus habitants i al precursor del projecte, en **Buitreman** *(tal com el van batejar al National Geographic)*. Però això només és una de les activitats que realitzarem, vols saber més? *Doncs vinga, al lio!* **Programa** ***Dia 23 Maig*** ✔ Sortida a les 09:00 en direcció **Monroyo** a la comarca del Matarranya. ✔ Arribada a l’[Hotel Posada Guadalupe](https://posadalupe.com/) a Monroyo, checking i dinar. En plena província de Teruel es troba el municipi de Monroyo, en plena comarca del Matarranya. **Un lloc amb una màgia especial on es barregen història, gastronomia i naturalesa.** Situat a 857 metres d’altitud, destaca pel seu traçat medieval de carrers empedrats i cases de pedra amb balcons tradicionals. ✔ Dinar a l’Hotel ✔ Després de dinar, posem camí fins a **Valderrobres** En creuar el ‘pont de pedra’ i travessar la muralla pel portal de Sant Roque entraràs, sens dubte, en **un dels pobles més bonics d’Aragó i d’Europa**. Declarat **Conjunt Històric**, als seus carrers medievals, plens de bells racons, destaquen monuments com l’església de Santa María, un dels màxims exponents de l’arquitectura gòtica a Aragó, el castell – palau de Valderrobres, també gòtic, i l’ajuntament, excel·lent exemple de palau renaixentista aragonès. **Gaudirem d’una visita guiada amb guies locals, del centre històric i també del Castell de Valderrobres.** ✔ Tornada a l’Hotel i sopar (amb petita sorpresa i un sopar especial…) Diuen que Sota el cel de Teruel cada estrella explica una història. La província es troba en una zona amb baixa contaminació lumínica, la qual cosa la converteix en un destí ideal per als amants de les estrelles. Al principi ni els tocaven, ja que els voltors tenen una por ancestral als humans, que els persegueixen des de l’antiguitat. Van passar uns tres anys fins a aconseguir que els primers exemplars comencessin a menjar el que *«buitreman»* els tirava. **Des de fa gairebé 35 anys**, cada matí «buitreman» repeteix el ritual de donar menjar als voltors. • Preciosa ruta desde el bonito pueblo de **Bagà** recorriendo la **Vía Nicolau**, antiguo camino del ferrocarril, pasaremos por dos **túneles** y un **puente colgante**, ermitas y masías. Seguiremos el curso del rio Bastareny, saltos de agua y llegaremos a **La Dou del Bastareny**, **nacimiento del río Bastareny**, un lugar precioso. Volveremos visitando la cascada del Bullidor de Llet. • Se puede acortar en 2,5km si no se va al Bullidor de Llet, ese camino es de ida y vuelta. **History** The history of [Blendon Woods Metro Park](https://www.metroparks.net/parks-and-trails/blendon-woods/) began long before its 1951 opening, rooted in a landscape of rugged ridges and deep ravines that made the land unsuitable for traditional farming. In 1945, a report proposing a metropolitan park system for Franklin County specifically highlighted these cliffs of Bedford Shale as some of the "wildest land in the vicinity". Following this recommendation, the recently formed park district purchased the first 229 acres in early 1949. Because the terrain was so uneven, developers had to cut a mile-and-a-half-long roadway through dense woods just to bring in heavy equipment. This initial preservation effort ensured that the mature second-growth hardwood forests remained largely untouched by the urban expansion spreading toward Westerville. Opening day arrived on Labor Day, September 3, 1951, marking Blendon Woods as the second park in the Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks system. The final push to open was a frantic race; the State Highway Department only finished the primary gravel access road four days before the gates opened. Early staff members, consisting of just four full-time employees, had to hand-dig pit toilets and learn construction skills on the fly to build the first picnic shelters. Despite the dusty conditions and limited facilities, the park was an immediate success, drawing massive crowds from across Central Ohio. By the end of the 1950s, annual visitation had already climbed to over 190,000 people. As the surrounding suburbs grew in the 1960s, the park faced severe overcrowding that threatened its natural habitats. In response, Franklin County voters passed the first Metro Parks levy in 1960, providing the funds necessary for a decade of steady expansion. During this era, the park nearly doubled in size, growing from 264 acres to over 570 acres by 1968. Planners also addressed a critical water shortage by collaborating with the U.S. Soil and Conservation Service to build a lake in 1964. This body of water originally served as a temporary reservoir before its role shifted toward conservation and wildlife support. The 1970s marked a transition toward the specialized wildlife and educational focus for which the park is known today. In 1971, the Walden Waterfowl Refuge was established around the 11-acre Thoreau Lake, creating a sanctuary that remains restricted to provide a quiet habitat for migratory birds. A formal nature center was also developed during this period, expanding on the guided Sunday walks that had been a park staple since the early 1950s. The park’s famous "Monarch Mansion" also became a prominent fixture, starting a long tradition of raising and releasing thousands of monarch butterflies each September. These initiatives cemented the park’s reputation as a premier destination for birders and nature enthusiasts. In more recent decades, Blendon Woods has continued to modernize while maintaining its wilderness character. The 10-acre Natural Play Area was added in 2017, encouraging kids to explore the ravines and woods off-trail. This was followed by the opening of a $1.5 million inclusive playground in April 2025, designed to accommodate children of all physical abilities. The nature center also underwent major renovations to include immersive, three-dimensional exhibits and a new butterfly house. Blendon Woods has a few hills here and there, but it's not one of the more strenuous metro parks. **Where We'll Meet** We'll meet just in front of the Nature Center. This is about a mile into the park from the main entrance.
