This is a facilitated creative session — not a class. You'll receive a starting prompt, access to paint, collage materials, texture, and colour, then two and a half hours to follow whatever feels right. No instruction. No judgement. No wrong moves. I designed this for women who spend their days in logic, deadlines, or high performance — and who have quietly stopped making things just for the joy of it. This session is permission to start again. We work in a small, intentional group. Music plays. Tea is ready. The third session of Shared Reading will focus on poetry. Using two poems to get us started, one classic and one contemporary, we will try to get to the heart of what poetry is all about. Why do people read poetry? What can it do for us? How do you read a poem? Whether you are a long time devotee or poetry skeptic, this meetup is for you! As with all our sessions, you do not need to have prepared anything in order to attend the session- just come along, pull up a chair, and join the discussion. Maki-e is a traditional Japanese lacquer decoration technique. Techiniques are involved drawing pictures, patterns, and letters on the surface of lacquerware using lacquer, and then sprinkling and fixing metal powder, such as gold or silver, onto the surface. In our workshop, you have the opportunity to create maki-e designs using traditional Japanese patterns (wagara) or your own original designs.
