Hello fellow OZ (Origami Zoomers) This is our weekly hang-out and folding digital meeting space! anyone is welcome to join. Even if you don't have a meetup account. (please send me a message and I can send you the zoom link, it will be the same every week) We will meet every Wednesday at 7PM and hang out and fold. The format of the meeting will be very informal, like our local meetings used to be when they were in person. Each of the three writers get 25 minutes of combined reading and critique time for their piece. Writers of all levels welcome! This session: General information: Sue Schneider will guide you through this meditative drawing art form. Step-by-step, you will learn the basic process for creating a small, abstract design using repetitive pattern skills. Zentangle is easy, relaxing and stress-free; perfect for "these challenging times". FIRST-TIMERS: If you are brand new to Zentangle, I'm happy to send you my Beginner's Guide, that will fill you in on background, basic techniques and some starter patterns. Just email me at sue.schneider.artist@gmail.com with "Beginner's Guide Request" in the subject line. Our lesson will begin promptly at noon. The lesson will be about 75-90 minutes. Sue will demonstrate patterns and techniques for you to follow along. During the last few minutes we'll share our creations and wrap-up. There are 2 sessions each month, on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays. At each session we'll follow the basic Zentangle method and explore a variety of themes and topics, often with new pattern introductions and techniques beyond the basics (e.g., shading, color, non-abstract, use of tinted papers, etc.) SUPPLIES NEEDED: Please provide a standard pencil, a fine tipped black marker, and paper on which to draw. Optional: Tortillion (blending stub), colored pencils, white and red fine tipped markers/pens. Pen recommendations: Sakura Pigma Micron 01; Uniball Vision Micro; Sharpie Fine (look for "**no-bleed**" on the package, solid black barrel). Paper: We usually work on a 3.5" square paper (called a "tile"). Good quality papers that work well are Strathmore Vellum Bristol, 95# or 140# water color paper, a "Mixed Media" sketchbook, 65# card stock. Recently I have often used a 4x6" blank index card. We are close to our creative source when the child within - the creative unconscious - speaks its mind and ignores any critical or editorial voices. In the morning we will let that "Crazy Child" write. And when the exercise is shared, the workshop as a whole will likely repeat many of your lines and say, "Those images are striking!" or "That scene is full of power!" These are clues for the afternoon's exercise. Or we may go wherever the energy is and write freely and wildly again. This is proprioceptive writing - dealing with the stories contained in our psyches and nervous systems - and it gives texture, flair, and power to all kinds of writing. We are usually surprised by how much writing we do in these workshops, and by its high quality. This is aside from the fun we have, and how the journey satisfies our souls! This is a monthly workshop usually presented the second Saturday of the month. All workshops are presented via Zoom. Write with paper and pen or a laptop, your writing preference.
