Want to be a better speaker at Roncesvalles Speakers Circle
Roncesvalles Speakers Circle is a member of Toastmasters International and is located in Toronto, Ontario, serving the neighbourhoods of Roncesvalles, The Junction, High Park and Parkdale. We’re an enthusiastic group dedicated to self improvement, public speaking, and offer a great space for both guests and members to develop their leadership and speaking skills.
To join in on the self improvement and attend our weekly meeting, please email [rsctoastmasters.vppr@outlook.com](mailto:rsctoastmasters.vppr@outlook.com) for the link to our ZOOM Meetings.
Toastmasters is an educational organization which teaches its members public speaking and leadership skills and builds their self-confidence by following a 'learning by doing' approach. It is the largest and most successful organization of its type in the world.
Discuss Humanianity, ethics, philosophy, and more!
"We will meet online, using Zoom. Please RSVP. Then Zoom link will become visible to you.
Although probably most of us don't want to admit it, despite our almost infinite language capability and our amazingly powerful science and technology based upon rationality (consistency with the rules of logic and the rules of evidence), ethically we are still mostly chimp-like, using mostly the authoritarian ethics that comes with our basic animal (hominid) nature, ethics that is based upon obedience to the most powerful (parent, leader, culture, deity). Consequently, we are talking, hi-tech "chimps," doing what chimps do but in our highly-sophisticated ways such that it is no longer so evident what is going on. (The best example, perhaps, is our tendency to fight, at all levels of relationship, from interpersonal to international, and with all levels of sophistication from murder and genocide to innuendo and cyberwarfare.)
The problem is that this way of living brings about much pain, suffering, disability, and early death (PSDED). Indeed, we are our most feared predator, and even what we do to ourselves (lifestyle) is pretty awful. And our whole species is at severe risk because of our widespread lack of, and denial of, the knowledge that our science and technology are making available to us.
Yet, because of our enormous language and hi-tech (rational) capabilities, we are indeed beginning to manifest a new kind of ethics, not authoritarian ethics, but instead rational ethics that is also consistent with an (not yet generally verbalized) ultimate ethical principle--something like: "We should do that which will promote, not only the survival of our species, but also as much joy, contentment, and appreciation as possible and as little pain, suffering, disability, and early death (PSDED) as possible, for everyone, now and in the future." This specific ultimate ethical principle, arbitrarily chosen by some of us for whatever reasons, now has the label "Humanian Ultimate Ethical Principle (HUEP)," and is what a Humanian, by definition, wants his or her ethical beliefs to be in sync with on a rational basis.
How far along are we in the development of this new kind of ethics? The news media and our own knowledge based upon our own personal experience can easily lead us to recognize that we are still just a toddler, with a long, long way to go. But those of us that are striving to go in that direction can have a much more satisfying life, as we increasingly train ourselves to behave consistently with the HUEP, and advocate for doing so.
In a Humanian organization, like Charlotte Humanianity, we work together on the never-ending task of becoming more ethical in our decision-making. We do this by challenging each other with regard to our ethical beliefs (about what we should and should not do) and by reviewing ethical presentations (in the media) that challenge our thinking. The challenging is necessary to help us grow, instead of remaining in denial while making life worse for ourselves and each other.
A major set of tools for studying is at humanianity.com (https://humanianity.com/humanianity/humhome.php).
BTW, Bill Van Fleet did not consider himself the "founder" of Humanianity. Humanianity is a phenomenon that has been emerging in many ways for quite some time; it is simply given it a label so that we can talk about it more specifically and help its emergence to occur a little more rapidly. This is an organization in which, as one way of studying, we include challenging each other's opinions in our pursuit of ever-increasing ethical wisdom, in order to have a more satisfying life and to do our parts to make the world a better place for everyone." - WVF

A lovely session of music and song in a relaxed and supportive environment. All levels of musician and singer welcome. You can come and sing or play one song or just come and listen to the other members. Great way to build up your playing skills and build up your confidence.
To maintain our zoom and music maker accounts we request a €2 contribution. It is difficult to collect money for the online events so we are suggesting that if possible we could use revolut to transfer the €2 if you don't have an account I'm sure you know someone who could do the transaction for you. The host will identify the Revolut number on the night. If you don't have access to revolut it doesn't matter we will look at some other way to collect the €2 euro.
Zoom is not optimized for music, but we have tested it and think it's decent enough for a get together in the absence of a face to face meeting. Voice is better than instrument.
Zoom is pretty simple to get into and use. You don't need an account but if you want to test it out beforehand, you can get a free one by searching for it where you get your apps or downloading it on the web.
A few simple guidelines to ensure it runs smoothly.
1. Stay on mute while someone else is playing or singing. You can join in ONLY if you are on mute, because the delay over the internet does not allow simultaneous playing online.
2. When you are playing, stay as close to your device's microphone as possible for best results.
3. There are two views - Gallery view and Active Speaker view. Active speaker will put the video on the person singing, Gallery view will show everyone. You may have to search a bit to find each view, it is different on each device.
4. You can mute your audio and/or your video.
The host reserves the right to mute anyone whose line is causing audio interference.
5. There is an interesting option to record yourself first and then share it - the quality will be better.
In Zoom there's an icon called "Share Content", if you click that you get the option to share files on you Google Drive etc. I've just tried it out and it allows you to throw up pre-recorded audio and/or video files. These replace your video picture while they play. When they finish just hit the share content icon again and your video image comes back. So this might be an option for anyone to pre-recrord (good quality), load onto Google Drive, join a Zoom session and, when it comes to their turn, introduce their song and share the pre-recorded song from G Drive.
6. As mentioned above, Zoom is optimised for voice rather than music so it actually tries to filter out music thinking that it's background noise but that filter can be disabled but only on Windows and macOS as follows:
On the Zoom Home page on you laptop:
Click on 'Settings' (top right)
Then click on 'Audio' (left pane)
Then click 'Advanced' (bottom right)
Then tick the box at the top of the screen 'Show in-meeting option to "Enable Original Sound" from microphones'
Then, when you're on a call, a toggle switch appears at the top left of your screen "Turn on Original Sound".
Click that - it changes to "Turn off Original Sound" and you're done.
Preferred setup for anyone with an instrument might thus be:
1) Windows or macOS
2) Turn on Original Sound
3) Direct connect to router (rather than Wi-Fi)
Even better if you have a microphone connected via an audio interface device to your laptop/PC.
7. Don't forget your drink!

**Abstract**
GitHub Copilot is powerful, but what if you could scale from a solo AI assistant to an entire team of specialized agents working in parallel? This session introduces Squad: an open-source framework for multi-agent orchestration that lets you define teams of AI agents with specific roles, responsibilities, and expertise.
We'll progress from Copilot basics to the Copilot CLI, explore how Agents add autonomy, and see how Instructions and Skills let you customize agent behavior. Then, the climax: a live demo where a Squad team of 3 agents (Lead, Developer, Tester) stands up and builds a working application in real-time, showcasing true multi-agent collaboration.
Whether you're new to AI or exploring how to scale your use of Copilot, this session will show you what's possible when agents work as a team.
