Mythology-themed Gateless Writing Salon via Zoom Led by Rebecca Lynne
Mythology-themed Gateless Writing Salon via Zoom Led by Rebecca Lynne
Join Rebecca Lynne as she leads a two hour generative writing workshop, featuring prompts, inspiration and feedback drawn from the Gateless method. In the mythology salons, a character from mythology will be chosen prior and will be briefly described so there is no need to prepare prior. Then a related poetic prompt will be shared followed by writing and sharing time with feedback following the Gateless method. ALL GENRES ARE WELCOME! Rebecca Lynne is a certified Gateless facilitator. Beginning with presentation of a unique communication or expression, she will lead the group to a prompt and then time to write. She will invite the group to share what each has created, with feedback following the Gateless method. Let Rebecca help to inspire you, create community, and help to unearth the writing that’s inside. This workshop is $15 per session or 11 sessions for $150. It is offered complimentary for your first session so you can see if it is something you would like to invest in. I am able to accept PayPal.me/RebeccaLynne and Venmo @Rebecca-Smolen or cash.

Medicine Buddha Puja Practice
Medicine Buddha Puja Practice
Medicine Buddha Puja, meaning a special chanted prayer session. All are welcome to attend, and we welcome practitioners to join in this wonderful, traditional healing and purification practice we chant in Tibetan. Chanting is in Tibetan with English and transliteration text provided. Join in the chanting, attend quietly as a blessing, or do your own practice during the pujas. Participation is voluntary and open to all. This Mahayana/Vajrayana puja practice includes prayers requested by friends and relatives for those who are experiencing difficulties in life, are ill or have died; you are invited to add your personal dedications during the prayers. These practices develop and enrich an attitude of healing the body and mind and cultivating an attitude of loving-kindness and compassion for all beings without exception. Practice in person or on zoom. RSVP to see zoom link. The sadhana or prayer is chanted in Tibetan with English translation in the text. You can download the text here https://dharmaebooks.org/medicine-buddha/ The text will also be shared on screen during the zoom session. We are currently reading Medicine Buddha Teachings by Thrangu Rinpcohe before each practice. This will be an excellent walk through for those who haven’t had formal instruction and a great refresher for seasoned practitioners.
Write-In! [ONLINE]
Write-In! [ONLINE]
The time has come to WRITE! For this meetup we may have some small chit chat here and there, but our purpose is singular: to get some writing done. If you have been looking for a time and space to get busy adding words to a current project, then this meetup is for you. I will bring along my bag full of prompts if anyone wants to peruse them to get started, but, for all intents and purposes, this meetup is an opportunity to support you in whatever you need to be working on now. ***UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE, THIS MEETUP WILL BE VIRTUAL*** Topic: STATEN ISLAND WRITERS WRITE IN Time: 05:30 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada) Every month on the Third Tue To find the link of the month, head to the calendar of events on https://stopwritingalone.substack.com/ THE STATEMENT BELOW IS INCLUDED FOR WHEN WE DO RETURN TO BARNES & NOBLE. I LEFT IT HERE AS A REMINDER THAT BARNES & NOBLE IS A REALLY IMPORTANT SPACE FOR THE STATEN ISLAND WRITERS MEETUP GROUP, SO YOU MAY WANT TO KEEP THEM IN MIND THE NEXT TIME YOU ARE MAKING A BOOK PURCHASE (EVEN IF IT IS AN ONLINE PURCHASE). We are meeting in Barnes & Noble. They will NOT allow us to reserve a table, and they are very strict about people in the cafe purchasing cafe items, so please be prepared to buy SOMETHING, otherwise the cafe management will ask you (or all of us) to leave!
Writers' On-Line Feedback Session via Zoom
Writers' On-Line Feedback Session via Zoom
This group is for anyone interested in writing in English, whether it be prose or poetry or non-fiction. We get together once a week to listen, critique and support each other in our work. Attendees bring something they have written, which they read aloud. They then receive feedback from the rest of the group. The size of the group is limited to 4, so that everyone is able to receive a full 30 minutes of constructive feedback including reading time. We are an anglophone group and everything is conducted in English, in fact not everyone who comes can speak French. Please bear this in mind if you sign up.

Slate Run Metro Park and Living Historical Farm
Slate Run Metro Park and Living Historical Farm
**Hike Slate Run Metro Park and visit the Living Historical Farm. We will aim for 3.5 to 4 miles of hiking and then do a quick pass through the Living Historical Farm. From there those who are interested can join for lunch at Brewdog, 96 Gender Way, Canal Winchester, just 11 minutes away.** **If you’d like to spend more time at the Farm plan on arriving early (they open at 9).** **Living Historical Farm: Time has been turned back to the 1880s at Slate Run Living Historical Farm. Experience first-hand what life was like on a 19th-century Ohio farm. As you stroll through the gardens, barns and farmhouse, you will see the farm’s costumed staff and volunteers going about their daily chores. Pigs, geese, turkeys, Percheron horses and other heirloom animals can be seen.** **The gothic revival farmhouse was built in 1856 and restored by Metro Parks for authenticity. Visitors can tour the living room, parlor and kitchen and watch the farm ladies prepare meals on a woodburning stove and tend the house. The multi-bay barn was built by Samuel Oman, the fourth owner of Slate Run Farm, and restored by Amish carpenters.** **Allow at least three hours and maybe more if you're joining for lunch.** **Pace is 17-18 minute miles with no one left behind. Faster walkers are free to lead - I'll have the route well defined - and we can meet up at the farm.** **This is the fourth of the metro parks.**

Shut Up & Write! Kingsdale Shopping Center
Shut Up & Write! Kingsdale Shopping Center
Greetings writers! Come down and join your fellow wordsmiths for one hour of uninterrupted writing time in the upper level of the Market District Supermarket in Upper Arlington. The main entrance of the shopping center opens onto stairs/elevator leading up to the 2nd floor cafe section where we will have a table displaying a sign with the Shut Up & Write logo. Writing is largely a solitary craft. Practicing with others in a community setting may be the thing you need to fire your own routine. We’ll meet on Wednesday evenings, starting the clock at 6:30, following a brief period of introductions. This is solid writing time and all inclusive. Any project is acceptable, be it fiction, non -fiction, work or homework assignment. All is welcome and will remain private to you. The market boasts a Starbucks, a full service bar and various affordable food options. Parking is plentiful, free Wifi is provided as well as outlets for charging your devices, though they are somewhat limited, so plan accordingly. Show up as early as you like, or stay late. This group tends to socialize some, both before and after the alloted time, but this is not mandatory to you. Feel free to come and go as you please and late arrivals are welcome. The cafe may be noisy on occasion so headphones/ earbuds are reccommended as you see fit. Please try to RSVP if possible so that we may grab enough seats for all—the venue can be busy at times. Feel free to message me privately wth any questions and/ or concerns you may have. Happy writing!
