50+ Filmmakers/Actors Gather Every Wednesday - Join Us!
Join us every **Wednesday at 5 PM** at the Emporium food court (located behind Grill’d Burger Restaurant in the CBD, not near Melbourne Station) for a dynamic networking event tailored for filmmakers, actors, and film enthusiasts. Afterward, we continue the evening with Happy Hour drinks at a nearby bar and a chance to grab dinner together. Understanding that schedules vary, feel free to join at any time that suits you. Rain or shine, our community has gathered every week for the past year, maintaining a consistent and welcoming environment.
Our group has grown remarkably, with a **weekly turnout of over 50 participants**, blending newcomers with regulars to create a vibrant, diverse community. Feel free to bring friends interested in filmmaking; it’s a great way to introduce new faces to our expanding network.
Whether you’re a writer, actor, animator, or independent filmmaker, come share your experiences, discuss current projects, or chat about favorite films. This event fosters connections among like-minded individuals, encourages friendships, and opens doors for collaboration.
At **7 PM**, we move to The Carlton Club, a five-minute walk away, where we continue networking in a more formal rooftop setting over drinks and food. This change of venue offers an ideal environment to keep conversations flowing.
**RSVP** to help us gauge attendance and become part of a growing network of film professionals and enthusiasts. Though the event begins in the afternoon, the relationships you build here can last well into the night and beyond.
**What to Expect:**
*Our Wednesday meetup is primarily a large networking event for industry professionals. There’s no set theme, workshop, or speaker. It’s a relaxed gathering where filmmakers, actors, and creatives can connect, discuss projects, share needs, and learn from each other. Conversations flow freely around the table, fostering an environment of growth and camaraderie. Beyond Wednesdays, we also host exclusive events such as table reads, cinematography workshops with Panasonic, member screenings, and more. Each week brings fresh dialogues—some participants discuss their weekend shoots, others exchange insights with seasoned producers and directors, and a few engage in filmmaking exercises. It’s a space designed for creative engagement without strict structure or formal oversight.*
*Note: Our community emphasizes collaboration, friendship, and goodwill rather than promotional activities. If you wish to promote a workshop, course, screening, or similar event, please contact the organizers first. Promotional privileges are generally reserved for trusted, long-standing members.

**Sponsored by CareerXlerate**
**Turn your cloud knowledge into real-world impact—and your passion into a career.**
In today’s world, knowing the cloud is just the beginning. The real question is:
**How do you turn those skills into meaningful, real-world AI and industry solutions?**
**Cloud to Career** is a high-impact, immersive evening designed to bridge that exact gap — bringing together students, industry leaders, and innovators into one powerful space.
Whether you're exploring cloud, diving into AI, or preparing for your first role in tech, this event will give you something far more valuable than theory:
**insight, exposure, and real connection with the people already doing it.**
**Event Details**
* **Date:** April 8th
* **Time:** 6:00 PM – 8:30 PM
* **Audience:** \~100 students, engineers, and aspiring tech professionals
**What to Expect**
Industry Panel: Real Stories, Real Insights. Kick off the evening with a high-value panel featuring leading professionals from the industry.

* Real-world applications of cloud + AI
* Skills that actually matter (beyond coursework)
* Mistakes, lessons, and career-defining moments
**Live Q&A — Ask Anything**
An open Q&A session where you drive the conversation.
Ask your questions — whether you're unsure about career paths, technical skills, or industry expectations.
Includes both:
* In-person audience questions
* Online audience participation
**Networking + Buffet**
Move into a relaxed networking session with food and meaningful conversations.
This is your chance to:
* Speak directly with industry professionals
* Build genuine connections

This is where things get exciting.
During networking, 2 students and 2 industry professionals will be randomly selected to take part in a live architecture challenge.
**What happens:**
* A real-world case scenario is presented
* Collaborate for 40 minutes
* They design and discuss a solution architecture
* Present their thinking to a panel of judges
**Then:**
* Judges break down the solution
* Highlight what worked and what didn’t
* Share how they would approach the problem
Meanwhile, the rest of the room continues networking — making this a dynamic, interactive, and high-energy environment.
Why You Should Attend

*this* is where it starts.
Raja Yoga - Online Course
This course, facilitated by Wendy Dixon, explores the concepts and exercises in Wallace Slater’s book *A Simplified Course of Raja Yoga*, which follows the Yoga Sutras or Aphorisms of Patanjali.
We meet online every Wednesday night and follow the 10-lesson structure created by Slater, allowing a month for each lesson. We will thoroughly explore each step, with time for discussion and practice.
Each session contains material on one or more of the eight limbs of yoga, so named by Patanjali - self-restraint (yama), self-discipline (niyama), posture (āsana), control of breath (prānayāma), control of the sense (pratyāhāra), concentration (dhāranā), meditation (dhyāna) and contemplation (samādhi).
Additional material is sourced from I. K. Taimni, Swami Vivekananda, H. P. Blavatsky and contemporary Raja Yoga books.
We begin and close each session with sitting meditations.
**This is an ongoing course that you can join at any time.**

We encourage our members to support anime artists and producers by purchasing their movies or any full series should they wish to watch the endings.
**Some insight for newer members:**
It's a natural process to feel a little anxious attending a large event you have never experienced before. During sign ins our hosting team will naturally be busy however our meet & greet volunteers will do their best to say 'Hello' to everyone and perhaps connect you to others. If for some reason this does not happen (because it's really busy), don't fret! Our ice breaker games are designed to help everyone bond over a shared experience. You should expect adults having fun and letting lose whilst being challenged to push some comfort zones which we invite you to do as well! The games are suppose to be silly to help people come out of comfort zones and get to know someone new. We will then take a break to watch anime and we really do encourage you to stay for games after dinner which is when our team gets a breather and a good chance to get to know our newer members better in a quieter setting! We have witnessed many wonderful long term friendships formed at MAC amongst our members - We do hope you join us!

4 Dangerous Traps on the Spiritual Path
I spent 23 years chasing enlightenment and fell into numerous spiritual traps which kept me running in circles for years.
If you're walking the path, you'll meet these traps too. The ego can subtly hijack the desire for spiritual awakening. It masks itself as progress to maintain control.
In this sessions we will go deeper into the 4 most dangerous traps you will encounter which can keep you stuck for years.
When these traps are seen, not discussed but actually seen, you can finally encounter the truth you have been longing for.
**Schedule**
* Talk by Rajiv followed by open Q&A
* Guided Meditation
* Spiritual networking. Make friends with others on the spiritual path
**About Rajiv**
Rajiv dedicated years of his life seeking enlightenment. His pursuit for truth, reality, emptiness and self-discovery took him through the profound depths of mysticism. He meditated 14 hours a day, stayed with monks, lived in the Himalayan caves, learned from wise sages and researched every major spiritual system, including Zen, Non Duality, Yoga, Buddhism etc.
Then one momentous morning in 2005, he experienced his first shift into higher states of consciousness, an inner spiritual awakening. This was followed by days of infinite ecstasy and bliss. Finally, the years of seeking culminated and he realised his own true nature.
He now shares his deep insights to help seekers progress on the path of awakening & meditation. His approach is secular, based on personal experience. You can read about his spiritual journey here — [https://innerspiritualawakening.com/rajiv-agarwal/my-journey/](https://innerspiritualawakening.com/rajiv-agarwal/my-journey/)
**Venue**
Kathleen Syme Library 251 Faraday Street, Carlton, VIC
We will be in Multipurpose Room 1.
We may take some photos to capture the moment. If you prefer not to be photographed, please let the organiser know at any time. This event is free and open to all adult seekers (18+). For inquiries please email Manpreet — [mysteriousmk@yahoo.com](mailto:mysteriousmk@yahoo.com)
CREATING and IMPROVING ABILITY! Free Meetup!
Your ability to work and live with others is crucial to your survival.
To survive well one needs ability.
Today meetup topic: Creating and Improving Ability
And if you think you already have all the ability one needs to survive well then it is important for you to learn how to KEEP IT FROM GOING AWAY.
Attend our Free Meetup!
Definition for Ability: One's power to observe, to make decisions and to act.
A man is as free, as well-off, as he is able.
A family is as happy as it has ability.
A business is as well-off as it has able people in it.
A country is as well-off as it has able workers, foremen and executives.
At today's meetup learn what constitutes ability and more importantly how to develop and improve it so that it does not go away.
Fact's are that one's ability is never the same. It either goes up or it will go down.
Your natural as well as learned abilities are constantly subject to many of life's pressures.
One can therefore simply not rest on one's laurels regarding your current abilities and simply assume they will always be available for use.
The time to protect and enhance ability is when you are still able.
Any loss of ability will result in less confidence followed by problems resulting in unhappiness. This is called the dwindling spiral.
Not just for you, it will impact all others you associate with as well.
Today's topic applies to all aspects of life but will focus on how your abilities or lack of abilities or a sudden or gradual lowering of ability relates to work and family life.
On your arrival you will be asked to complete a Oxford Personality Test.
From this you will learn what ability it is that needs attention and improving.
Whilst at our meetup you will also learn about some of the different technologies are that you find here which actively create, protect or enhance ability in key areas of life.
The world cries out for better people (More Able People) that will lead happier life's with better better jobs, stronger families as well as community and businesses groups.
Get The Know-How for life, attend our meetup or ask me for a time that is better suited to your schedule.

Golang April @ Atlassian
Hi Gophers! Join us this April for an evening of Go talks exploring real-world systems, from building a BitTorrent client to running Go on legacy architectures. We are looking forward to connecting with you.
*
**Agenda**
**6:00pm — Food & Networking**
**6:30pm — Intro + Go News**
**6:45pm — Talks**
**8.00pm — Wrap up then head out for kick ons**
**🎤 Tom Clancy**
**Building a BitTorrent client in Go**
BitTorrent, first released in 2001 is a peer-to-peer protocol for file sharing. Its decentralised approach, where pieces of files are exchanged with peers (rather than a central server), is a natural fit for Go's concurrency model. This talk looks at the inner workings of the protocol, how to build your own client, and concurrency patterns for performance.
Bio: Tom is a Software Engineer at Megaport, working on their edge networking functions platform (written in Go).
**🎤 Sam Hobson**
**Compiling Go for Ancient Architectures**
Some customers approached Knocknoc asking if we can get our Go agent to run on their old HPUX PA-RISC and Solaris SPARC machines, both unsupported by Go, and we took on the challenge of finding a way to make it work
Bio: "I'm Sam, I'm a software engineer of a couple of years working at a startup called Knocknoc on Just-in-time network layer access control software. Please come talk to me about cool stuff you're working on!"
*
**Interested in speaking at an upcoming event?**
We will aim to have a mix of short (\~10min) and in-depth (20-30min) talks.
If you’re keen to give a talk on a topic, share a project, or idea, please let us know [bit.ly/GolangMelbourneSpeakersForm](https://bit.ly/GolangMelbourneSpeakersForm)
Father Mother Sister Brother - 4:10 p.m. Sunday 4/12 at the Nova -
Jim Jarmusch‘s new film with Cate Blanchett, Adam Driver, Charlotte Rampling and Tom Waits.
“Father Mother Sister Brother is consistently beautiful. It is not easy to create visual variety and interest in scenes in which by design the most important thing that is happening is that nothing is apparently happening.” Variety.
“There’s something comforting about the fact that Jarmusch is still doing his thing, exactly how he wants to, and that so many great actors are lining up to be part of it. He’s a singular voice in a landscape that’s always in danger of flattening.” The Associated Press.
We will meet at the Nova Bar from 3:30 p.m. onwards, please book your tickets early, Stefan - 0437777522

We always have a 10 minute presentation from one of the members about their business in more detail. And finally we pass referrals. You're welcome to visit. Nobody is ever put on the spot. Bring plenty of cards!

Here are complete details and our plan for this event:
FAITH MISSION – GRANT KITCHEN: The Faith Mission kitchen and dining room serves residents 3 meals a day, every day of the year. For this event, our group will help prepare food, serve meals, assist residents in the dining room, wash dishes, and clean surfaces.
PLAN: We will be preparing / serving / cleaning for BRUNCH from 10:30am to 12:30pm and have space for a total of 7 volunteers. Please arrive at 10:20am and wear closed-toe shoes and long pants.
LOCATION: Faith Mission – Grant Kitchen is located at 245 N. Grant Ave. Enter the kitchen at Dock 1 (in the back of the building), indicated in the attached map. On-site parking in the adjacent lot and street parking is available in the surrounding area. Below are some links / attachments with additional info/details:
IMPORTANT REMINDER: Our group will be providing all of the volunteers on this day so a firm RSVP count is essential. Please only sign up if you are certain you’ll be able to attend. If something unavoidable comes up, please try to update your RSVP no later than one week prior to the event. With few exceptions, no shows or cancelations within 1
week of the event will not be eligible for future CMG Gives Back events. I appreciate your understanding as we try to ensure the agencies have the volunteers needed to provide the essential services they provide to the vulnerable population they serve. Our Partner Agency for this event is Lutheran Social Services! A huge THANK YOU to all of YOU for volunteering at this (and any of our previous) CMG Gives Back events!
Should be a good/fun/meaningful time together, Dan

Humanist Program
The Humanist Monthly Program is our longest running event and still a community favorite. In the old days it used to be called "Going to HCCO" and we still like to think of it as our flagship event.
We will be hearing from Becca Powell, Director of Advocacy and Outreach at Unchained At Last, an organization whose mission is dedication to ending forced and child marriage in the United States through direct services and systems change. Unchained At Last's mission clearly meshes and addresses several of our Humanist Ten Commitments. Becca will educate us about an issue many of us may not be familiar with--but should be.
Food and drinks will be provided at the event. Feel free to show up a little bit early to hang out and talk.
Going forward our meetings will be hybrid. You can meet us in-person or attend online

...and speaking of breakthrough roles: who can forget the first time we saw Tom Cruise singing Bob Seeger in his underwear? Often considered an updated 1983 version of The Graduate, the movie sparkles with memorable lines and original music. I only regret that I was never told that "Princeton could use someone like Bob..."
