About us
Started in October 2009 mainly as a discussion group for science fiction and fantasy topics, this group has grown rather large and diverse over time!
We run a variety of different events. Our main events are:
* A semi-regular social catch-up where members can catch up to talk all sci-fi/fantasy, gaming, book, tv, movie related topics
* Book Review Group - read one (or more) of the nominated science fiction, fantasy or urban fantasy novels. Meets every 2 months.
* Paranormal book club and culture - read one (or more) of the lighter and fluffier supernatural and romance influenced books selected, followed by a culture activity. Meets every 2 months.
* Horror book club - includes the option to read a classic or a contemporary horror book, or to watch a horror movie that is nominated and discussed by the group. Meets every 2 months.
* A variety of movie meet-ups from art-house, classic or latest block buster movies that have come out.
Apart from this, we have also had boardgame days, gone to plays, had comic book days, organised groups to go to Supanova and other 'cons' as they occur.
Please note that if you're new to the group, you are welcome to attend any meet-up. If you have RSVP'd to a meet-up, but you are no longer able to attend, please change your RSVP to a NO.
Members can also make suggestions for meet-ups that they would like to go via one of our group pages.
* Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/share/g/14b2NWiHdg1/
* Discord channel: https://discord.gg/qKzSpxt
First stop should be to read the guidelines and then enjoy discussing all sort of interesting topics.
We want to keep this page current and relevant for all members. If you haven't visited the Meet-up page in over a year, we may delete you from our group. However, you are most welcome to rejoin if something interests you.
I hope you can join us at an activity sometime soon!

Paranormal Romance Book Club and Culture
Time Out Federation Square, 2 Swanston Street, Melbourne, AUHi all,
Welcome to the August Paranormal Book Club!!
If you love books that are lighter and fluffier to read, with supernatural elements (magic, vampires, werewolves, etc.) then you will enjoy this group. After book club we head off and become a tourist in our own city, by attending an exhibition or some other cultural activity.
For August, we are going to meet at Time Out Fed Square for book club, then head across to ACMI for a look at their free exhibitions. The play school exhibition we were originally thought about attending, will have concluded. I've included a link to the existing exhibitions and we can discuss which one we want to go to during the meet-up.

Book Review Group - September 2026 (includes book swap!)
Mail Exchange Hotel, 688 Bourke St, Melbourne, VI, AUHi all,
Welcome to our September book club and our book swap night! We are a friendly group of avid readers that enjoy a variety of books and great conversation, over a meal. New members are welcome, but spaces are limited.
For the book swap, please bring along any books you no longer want on your shelf. We will add them to the centre of the table, and then everyone can choose a book (or 3!) that interests them. Any uncollected books will be donated to Traveller's Aid at Southern Cross Station.
The books for Thursday 17 September 2026 are:
Science Fiction
The Moon is a Harsh Mistress by Robert Heinlein
The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress by Robert A. Heinlein | GoodreadsFantasy
The Devils by Joe Abercrombie
The Devils (The Devils, #1) by Joe Abercrombie | GoodreadsUrban Fantasy
Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman
Dungeon Crawler Carl (Dungeon Crawler Carl, #1) by Matt Dinniman | GoodreadsYou don't have to read all the books. However, the more you read, the more robust the conversation will be with multiple people discussing each book. Don't forget to bring along some Sci-Fi, Fantasy and Urban Fantasy suggestions for the following meet-up!
If you would like to see all the books (excluding bonus books) that we have read before, click here to have a look. Since there are so many authors out there, we try not to repeat authors, however, I am relaxing this slightly moving forward. If you are new(ish) to the group, check out the back catalogue for some inspiration if you are stuck for something to read.
Numbers are limited. If you can’t make it, please change your RSVP to a NO as a courtesy to the organiser and to let any wait-listed people into the meet-up.
If you have time, stay back for a social catch up with your fellow book club members (or arrive early to chat prior to the meeting). Of course, you can go as soon as the book club finishes, but if you have time, then this is a great opportunity to find out all the news and what books people have been reading over the last couple of months.
Happy Reading!!! 🤓😊
