Impressions of Wildflowers
Impressions of Wildflowers
**May 29, 2026 - June 28, 2026** From the Georgetown Art Center: "Celebrating the latest exhibition *Impressions of Wildflowers* by artists Catherine, Maryruth, and Vera Prose, join the Georgetown Art Center in the gallery's Opening Reception event! Featuring live music, charcuterie, and wine, guests will have the opportunity to meet the artists and discuss featured works throughout the gallery. This is a free event taking place during normal business hours and is open to all ages. Catherine Prose has her studio in Wichita Falls, Texas where she teaches printmaking and drawing at Midwestern State University. Maryruth Prose works in her studio in Meers, Oklahoma where she primarily works on large Rio Grande loom using hand dyed wool. Impressions of Wildflowers is a multigenerational collaboration drawing from roughly 200 of Vera Prose’s (b. 1904-1998) pressed flowers dating back at least 60 years. Through printmaking, fiber, and word, the artists use the botanical heirlooms as the unifying inspiration eliciting memories of time, place, and relationships with nature and with each other.” **Reception** May 30\, 2026 \| 4:00 \- 6:00 pm **Artist talk** May 31\, 2026 \| 3:00 \- 4:00 pm [Georgetown Art Center](https://glasstire.com/venues/georgetown-art-center/) 816 South Main Street Georgetown, TX 78626 [Get Directions](https://www.google.com/maps/dir/?api=1&destination=30.6359592244898,-97.6771166326531)
Phenomenology of Spirit (10th Meeting)
Phenomenology of Spirit (10th Meeting)
**Note:** *I'd like us to discuss some recent and relatively recent events in US history (and perhaps world history) in the context of the Phenomenology and what they mean for the status and legitimacy of the US state. One of these includes the tension between the separation of powers (within the context of the administrative state) and mass suffrage as the mechanism of popular representation and in part, the state's legitimacy. This is the tension between constitutionalism and democracy.* Hegel’s *Phenomenology of Spirit* endures as a work of philosophy that inspires dread due to its purported difficulty, while exerting an enigmatic pull both as a dare to readers and as an ever replenishing well of ideas. The difficulty of reading Hegel is the stuff of legend. Schopenhauer famously called Hegel a “charlatan”, Adorno proclaimed the *Phenomenology of Spirit* to be “incomprehensible”, while Bertrand Russell deemed Hegel to be “the hardest to understand of all the great philosophers”. Yet Hegel’s Phenomenology helped shape currents of philosophical and political thought in the 19th century, no less undergirding Marxian thought through the latter’s inversion of idealism into dialectical materialism. Russell founded analytical philosophy by rejecting Hegelian thought. In analytical philosophy circles, Hegel’s name induces grimaces and elicits consternation. Though more recent currents suggest a warming to the utility of his thought, as evinced by Robert Brandom’s interpretive tome: *A Spirit of Trust: A Reading of Hegel’s Phenomenology*. Amidst all the brouhaha surrounding the philosopher, the *Phenomenology of Spirit* continues to inspire scholarship and lay interest, and our precarious historical moment justifies renewed interest in its ideas. In this meetup we will traverse the landscape of the *Phenomenology* with a view to draw philosophical insights and interpretations of contemporary relevance. Is Hegel’s system in the *Phenomenology* compatible with empirical science? Further, is his ostensible embrace of contradiction consistent with formal systems in logic and mathematics or do they form a foil to orthodox Western thought? These are some questions, among a plethora of others, that we will pursue. My approach tends toward slow reading and interpretive depth as opposed to aiming for breadth while eliding important textual components, but both approaches are welcome. We will attempt to build on the conceptual problems discussed across meetings, recapitulating conceptual cleavages and elements that require continued attention. **We will meet Saturdays, 2pm at Cherrywood Coffeehouse · Austin, TX. For this meeting, we're moving the time to 1pm to leave more time for discussion.** **Tenth Meeting(May 12)**: **Read -- C. (BB.) Spirit. VI. Spirit. A. The True Spirit. The Ethical Order. [§438-483]**. **B: Self-Alienated Spirit. Culture. [484-526]. (ends right before b. Faith and pure insight).** **Recapitulation of past meetings:** First meeting (May 17), we read -- **Preface: On Scientific Cognition**. Second Meeting (June 7) , we read -- **Introduction.** Third Meeting (June 28): we read -- **Sense-Certainty.** Fourth meeting (July 12), we read -- **Perception: Or the Thing and Deception.** Fifth meeting (Aug 2), we read -- **Force and the Understanding**. Sixth meeting (Aug 16) we read **The Truth of Self-Certainty** and **Lordship and Bondage**. Seventh meeting (Sep 13) we read **Freedom of Self-Consciousness**. Eighth Meeting (Oct 18): we read **Observing Reason.** Ninth Meeting (Feb 28): we read **Reason. V. B. Actualization of Self-Consciousness [§347-346]**. **C: Individuality Real In and For Itself [394-437].** (If you're reading the Miller translation, I'd discourage from reading the paragraph summaries at the end of the book; if you do, take them with a grain of salt). If you're new to the group, you may want to familiarize yourself with the previous readings, though it's not required. Consulting secondary literature is up to the discretion of the participant.

Free in Person Meeting - Get Over Losses and Betrayls
Free in Person Meeting - Get Over Losses and Betrayls
Do you want more motivation and confidence to build Lasting Relationships? This is a free, in-person meeting on the subject of betrayals, losses and how to get over them so you can build lasting relationships. Are you burdened by a stressful relationship? Unhealthy relationships can trigger feelings of anger, despair or self-doubt. They can create dwindling spirals of fights and seeking to make-up, or trying to “pin the blame” on someone or something. If you don’t find the RIGHT reasons, or select the correct sources of the problem, the problem can just get worse and worse. Whether in love or personal ties, with friends or at work, our life really IS affected by the quality of our relationships. Good ones can promote pleasure and survival, while less optimum ones can lead to annoyance, anger, self-doubt, stress, or even affect our health and ability to survive well. Whether you are suffering from a divorce, or a painful break-up, don’t know who to trust (or who to CHOOSE) as a partner, friend, boss or employee - the anxiety of relationship troubles can really make a mess of things. Maybe you’ve suffered a betrayal, or are dealing with hostility or criticalness or invalidation. Dwindling relationships can involve destructive behavior, where we hurt those we love, or start succumbing to self-destructive thoughts, attitudes or behaviors that spiral out of control and affect much more than our immediate relationship. Past losses in love or life can affect how we act or react to new people and situations and hold us back from even starting to create new, possibly great relationships! How can one get back onto a saner course of action? Come to our Meetup, where we can introduce you to some of the knowledge, tools and techniques of the breakthroughs in the field of the mind that we can apply to this ever important area of life: human relationships! Break free from self imposed limitations Here we will discuss: • How to “erase” the trauma of past hurts and betrayals so that one isn’t always repeating past mistakes. • Why and how do the negative emotions of others affect you? • Why is my partner withdrawing and what can I do about it? • Why do we sometimes feel compelled to hurt the ones we love? • Fights & arguments - what's really behind them? • What underlies “corrosive criticism” or the need to invalidate self or others? • How one can stably change one’s outlook on life so they can affect positive change? • Where do compulsive destructive behaviors come from and what can be done about them? • How to form closer bonds & keep growing the relationships with the people you care about? • How to enhance one’s own ability to survive and create positive healthy relationships whether in love, family & friendships or in work, business or one’s career? Relationships can be hard and life itself IS challenging. Why not arm yourself with the knowledge and breakthroughs that have been made about the mind, mental reactions & interpersonal relationships, so that one has better awareness and control over themselves and life in general. Learn where painful experiences are “stored” and how they can unknowingly affect us. You will also find out how one can “erase” those past painful experiences so that one is free to move forward without being tripped up by the past. Learn too, about what can lead some people to become “toxic” personalities and how to identify those traits in others so you won’t be tripped up trusting the wrong person. Our free Meet-ups occur in a safe environment where one can learn, without fear of judgment or criticism, and without the recommendation of harmful mental techniques or therapies, just how YOU can get yourself onto a happier & more successful path: in love & in life. Be sure to click on the red "Attend" button below to come to this local event. We look forward to seeing you there. This class is held at the Dianetics and Scientology Life Improvement Center.

Break Up With What Broke You, Columbus, Ohio
Break Up With What Broke You, Columbus, Ohio
On a list of "My Favorite Things", few people would put a "break up" in their top ten. More often, these words evoke feelings of shame, embarrassment, poor choices, and bad or sad endings. Before the new and beautiful can be built, the old, broken, and unnecessary must be cleared away. This process can be painful, but it is good, needful, and can produce wonderful results when done wisely and well. How does one break free from anxiety, comparison, or shame? Christian Bevere points people to the freedom God desires for His children, as well as giving practical ideas on how to shed both unhealthy baggage and the lies that seek to leave us anchored to past failure. Drawing from the Bible, ***Break Up With What Broke You*** clearly shows that what Satan would seek to use for evil, God uses for good and to accomplish His purposes. Join us **Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at 6:30 pm**, when we gather at **True Food Kitchen, Easton Town Center, Columbus**. We'd love to see you there! Free In-Person Events: How to Let Go of the Past and Move Forward
Free In-Person Events: How to Let Go of the Past and Move Forward
The emotional pain from past bad experiences easily lingers in the present, making it hard to enjoy life and create your future. Even when you think you've moved on, the negative emotions can be triggered, sending you back into the pain of that experience. And we are talking about pain; emotions such as grief, depression, anxiety, fear (or terror), boiling anger, simmering resentment, feelings of shame, blaming and regret can leave you incapacitated to a greater or lesser degree. In this local event we will be discussing the reasons why these past bad experiences have the power to affect you long after they occurred. We'll go over why the emotional pain can be so strong. We'll also discuss some simple solutions to overcome your emotional pain and be free to fully enjoy your life again. Examples of painful experiences include: * A broken relationship or divorce. * Death or loss of a loved one. * Death of a pet. * A sudden shock or bad news. * A betrayal. * Being part of an abusive relationship. * A bad injustice. * Loss of a job, position or business. * A grave illness or injury. The negative emotions from these experiences don't just go away on their own. But the good news is there is a way to clear them out of your way. Be sure to click on the red "Attend" button below to come to this local event. We look forward to seeing you there. This group is sponsored the Dianetics & Scientology Self-Improvement Center.
