We will discuss our reactions and interpretations of Flannery O'Connor's most anthologised short story, readable online in the first 32 pages of the document [here](https://jerrywbrown.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/A-Good-Man-Is-Hard-To-Find-and-other-stories-OConnor-Flannery.pdf) (this document's spacing and font make the story much longer, it is about 11 pages in my edition). This is a story from 1955 which builds on the theme of the southern gothic genre which we explored last time with Faulkner's story (though O'Connor self described her genre as "Christian Realism"). The story is interested in theological and moral questions, and will hopefully provide many interesting questions for us to ponder as we explore its ideas. Dance-Movement Therapy is a somatic practice that uses spontaneous movement as a way of self-exploration. This workshop offers a gentle introduction to the principles of dance-movement therapy. It is not a dance class and not a fitness session. There are no steps to learn and no choreography to follow. Participants are guided through simple movement and awareness exercises, sometimes individually and sometimes in interaction with others. The focus is on listening to the body, noticing impulses, and allowing movement to arise naturally. Through this process, participants may experience greater grounding, emotional awareness, and nervous system regulation. The atmosphere is supportive and non-judgmental. The intention is to create a safe and accessible space for exploration, not therapy. No previous movement experience is required. Facilitated by Marie Vejvodova, who completed a 4.5-year certified professional training in dance-movement therapy. She continues to deepen her education in somatic and self-development approaches in the Czech Republic and abroad. We have a great little community of Movie Group friends so rather than see a movie this time, we’ll help “create a better world” by helping serve those in need. Here are complete details and our plan for this event: FAITH MISSION – GRANT KITCHEN: The Faith Mission kitchen and dining room serves residents 3 meals a day, every day of the year. For this event, our group will help prepare food, serve meals, assist residents in the dining room, wash dishes, and clean surfaces. PLAN: We will be preparing / serving / cleaning for BRUNCH from 10:30am to 12:30pm and have space for a total of 7 volunteers. Please arrive at 10:20am and wear closed-toe shoes and long pants. LOCATION: Faith Mission – Grant Kitchen is located at 245 N. Grant Ave. Enter the kitchen at Dock 1 (in the back of the building), indicated in the attached map. On-site parking in the adjacent lot and street parking is available in the surrounding area.
