Dresden Files LARP: Seattle, 1998
The Dresden Files RPG is based on Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files Series and brief TV series http://www.hulu.com/watch/25757#i0,p0,d0 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dresden_Files This is a long running story driven game, appearing in over a dozen SoonerCons. With the arrival of COVID19 we have moved online. In addition, we have reset the setting to something lower in power. A tiny 21st century village deep in the woods, near the base of Mt. Rainer is our setting. A few local villagers maintain the peace and solve mysteries. New players are always welcome. Please join us? Contact me for a current Discord invite. Thanks.

Sunday Settlers Meetup Virtual
Sunday Settlers Meetup Virtual
Welcome to the new virtual format of the Catan meet up. We use Catan Universe to play online. Log on to CatanUniverse.com and be ready to share your username with the group. If you have reached level 3 within Catan Universe, please join the Guild most of us are in called Settlers of Gotham. The most popular platform to play CU is through Steam, although some play via their web browser. At the time of the meetup, first connect to the Zoom link provided to meet everyone. We will share our screen names on Catan Universe and start a game via Catan Universe. We will go to breakout rooms, if we have more than one game going. It is ok to join at any time. We will do our best to accommodate everyone. If you haven't set up an account with Catan Universe, please try to do it before the meet up time as it suggests a tutorial. We recommend completing the tutorial to get gold, suns, scrolls (this will make more sense when you've been on the site a while). I'm excited to see everyone soon! We play Settlers the second Saturday and the third Sunday of every month . We play a mix of traditional (3-4 player) or expansion (5-6 player) Settlers as well as Knights & Cities and/or Seafarers. Newbies are always welcome. We'll teach you the game. We look forward to playing with you! Thanks

This month's prompt concerns the idea of the “warrior philosopher” (seemed appropriate in these times)--that is someone whose understanding of violence, power, and justice is forged through direct experience of war. We are looking at Major General Smedley D. Butler, a highly decorated U.S. Marine raised in a Quaker (pacifist) tradition who later became a prominent critic of American militarism (there is a wonderful biography of Gen. Butler called "Gangsters of Capitalism") Butler's argument in *War Is a Racket* (1935): that many U.S. interventions were driven less by national defense than by corporate and financial interests, with Butler portraying himself as an enforcer for business and Wall Street. We can consider the moral ambiguity of his insider critique—whether complicity strengthens or undermines credibility and also consider some of the concrete reforms he proposed (e.g., “conscript” capital before soldiers, restrict the military to coastal defense, and have only those who fight decide on war). Butler’s life arc clearly changed from pacifist upbringing to warrior to antiwar crusader—and asks whether true understanding of peace requires firsthand knowledge of war, and what that implies about the cost of suffering. So do we need to suffer to understand suffering? Do we have to experience war to appreciate peace? As one more question: in the movie "A Few Good Men" Jack Nicholson's character says that "you have the luxury of not knowing what I know" so do most of us go through life oblivious to real violence and suffering? See you at Drunken Philosophy!
