Songwriting

This group hosts 3 types of meetings all aimed towards our final draft. In this meeting type, the group will engage in at least 3 rounds of writing together, using the pomodoro technique to maximize productivity: Each round consists of 25 minutes of work followed by a 5-minute break. (2 hrs in length). For more details about this group and the other types of meetings, check out the About section of this group. Zoom link will be directly sent to participants closer to the date. Work on your own project or ask us for a prompt or three. • 12-1: One hour read-back. Anyone who wants to gets five minutes to read from what they wrote. Please read only from what you wrote during the session. This avoids people comparing their first draft to someone's polished piece. NOTE: This is NOT a critique session. Please limit your feedback to clapping after each person reads. It IS a chance to read your work out loud, which is good for you and good for the group. Reading is voluntary, so don't get stressed. But try it sometime. It will make your writing better.

We will meet virtually every Saturday morning to write together and get ideas from each other if needed. This event includes writing bursts of about 30 minutes with ten minute breaks built in for anyone who wants to seek advice or just let their brain recharge. The best part is, you don't have to take the break if you don't want! Just mute your computer and write on through. The "schedule" for Weekend Writers is as follows: 9:00 a.m. - 9:10 a.m. Talk/prep 9:10 a.m. - 9:40 a.m. Writing session 1 9:40 a.m. - 9:50 a.m. Talk break, Q&A, advice, etc. 9:50 a.m. - 10:20 a.m. Writing session 2 10:20 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Talk, Q&A, etc. 10:30 a.m. - More writing if desired Even though the schedule lasts only an hour and a half, we may continue on for longer if desired. This meeting is online only for now but may change in the future; we meet on the Discord app which can be on a computer tablet or phone. This meeting is free and if you are new to reading out loud you can always ask one of our members to read for you if you prefer not to read out loud. Not everyone who attends signs up through Meet-Up up so please try to be on time as best you can at 1p to ensure we can figure and try to make time for new members. Greetings writers! Come down and join your fellow wordsmiths for one hour of uninterrupted writing time in the upper level of the Market District Supermarket in Upper Arlington. The main entrance of the shopping center opens onto stairs/elevator leading up to the 2nd floor cafe section where we will have a table displaying a sign with the Shut Up & Write logo. Writing is largely a solitary craft. Practicing with others in a community setting may be the thing you need to fire your own routine. We’ll meet on Wednesday evenings, starting the clock at 6:30, following a brief period of introductions. This is solid writing time and all inclusive. Any project is acceptable, be it fiction, non -fiction, work or homework assignment. All is welcome and will remain private to you. The market boasts a Starbucks, a full service bar and various affordable food options. Parking is plentiful, free Wifi is provided as well as outlets for charging your devices, though they are somewhat limited, so plan accordingly. Show up as early as you like, or stay late. This group tends to socialize some, both before and after the alloted time, but this is not mandatory to you. Feel free to come and go as you please and late arrivals are welcome. The cafe may be noisy on occasion so headphones/ earbuds are reccommended as you see fit. Please try to RSVP if possible so that we may grab enough seats for all—the venue can be busy at times.
