Howdy. MJ here. I'm a Chicago fella now +21yrs in Sydneytown living in the CBD (Central Business District)... NOBODY knows Sydney better than I do, cause she's my girl / my lover... Cool bars. Amazing hikes. Great places to eat. Yup. I know it and love it all.
Let's share it together... Perhaps your style is:
*I like long walks on the beach..." NO. That's so cliche on Bumble."
*I want to hike 30kms on rugged terrain..." Nah. Too much."
*I want to do a pub crawl... " F that. I'm too old."
Or?
"I fancy time in Mother Nature exploring beautiful hikes / walks in Sydney while meeting cool people. I want to check out some new bars and hydrate myself with a wine, beer or cocktail at the finale."
If the final statement suits your style??? Welcome to the group. Let's have some fun. See you soon! MJ
We’re a super fun hiking group, but there are a few ways to get nudged out of the group or an event:
a) “No shows” on the day. Honour your RSVP! It’s about manners;
b) Excessive cancelling your RSVP. Commit, then show up – people want to hike with you;
c) Misrepresenting your health & fitness. It’s a safety issue that affects me, you, and all other hikers;
d) Attending social events when you’re not a hiker. We connect in Mother Nature, and sometimes we do cheeky / fun events. Get to know us while hiking; and
e) Unkindness to fellow hikers. You won’t gel with everybody (which is fine), but if I keep hearing about “Person X”, well… they will be shown the door.
(The leader of "We Hike... to the Bar" is an experienced walker / hiker but he is not a professional hiker [less "Bear Grylls" and more "Beer Grills"], and he does not hold himself to be a professional. Whilst it is his intention to run each event at the highest possible safety standards ultimately the responsibility for your safety and well being will at all times be up to you. Pack wisely - sunscreen, water, First-Aid supplies, etc... When you RSVP for an event, you declare you are fit, healthy, and able to hike that event. When you RSVP for an event with "We Hike... to the Bar" you are automatically agreeing to indemnify the organiser from any liability for yourself and/or your possessions. Hiking is an inherently risky activity and you participate at your own risk.)
This is it. This is the one. I could lick this hike. I absolutely looooove it. And on a long weekend? Yes. Whales will still be going south too! The Coast. The Beaches. The rockpools. And a pub you won't forget. Grab my arm and let's hike, see the stunning sights, and grab a drink or 3...
I first hiked Macmasters Beach to Hardy's Hideaway in October 2024. At the end, my thought (I wasn’t alone) was “This is my favourite of the year, and this pub? Unforgettable."
BOUDDI COASTAL HIKE – MACMASTER’S BEACH TO KILLCARE BEACH
(PLEASE NOTE: This is a 3.5hrs hike. Getting to Woy Woy is easy. It’s not far at all considering it’s 5 train stops from Central Station. Here we go…
If you’re a tik tok’r here’s a VIDEO of the hike and also the text from the interwebber:
The Bouddi coastal walk runs from MacMasters Beach to Killcare Beach. Boasting beaches, boardwalks and birdlife, it’s known as one of the most beautiful central coast walks. This challenging hike is characterised by sweeping views, shady rainforest and inviting picnic spots.
There’s a photo opportunity around every corner on the Bouddi Coastal Hike. You might see wildflowers or migrating whales from Gerrin Point lookout along with the Bouddi National Park Marine Extension and the PS Maitland shipwreck at the eastern end of Maitland Bay.
The lookouts are 10/10 beautiful. The beaches are 10/10 beautiful. We’ll definitely stop for a swim. Bring swimmers, or go nude – I don’t give a shit. It’s Mother Nature at its finest so do as you fancy. It’s 11kms in length with some big inclines, so be fit and ready for this one.
Our walk starts at MacMaster's Beach Cafe (pic) at 11:00am sharp, and it finishes at Hardy's Hideaway for drinks and food. "Aubrey & Purton" is the band that's on (waiting to hear back w/ what time they start) - the locals will be getting loose for the long weekend, so feel free to book an overniter if you fancy - all that can be discussed in the whatsapp group (all attendees must join) at https://chat.whatsapp.com/KyJnKfWeokP1ArxOvnqcsC.
THE DETAILS:
a) Non-drivers (that's me). Central Station to Woy Woy. I'll be on the train leaving Central Station at 848am ARRIVING @ Woy Woy at 10:03am. Join me. We can Uber to MacMaster's Beach together - approx $8 -10 per person (please bring $CASH$ / coins - you'll be splitting with others).
b) Drivers. All drivers park at Hardy’s Hideaway - they know we are coming. That's how "Car Swap" works. To discuss, join our whatsapp group here: https://chat.whatsapp.com/KyJnKfWeokP1ArxOvnqcsC If you take any hikers to / from the event expect $5 each way - least we can do.
c) Hardy's Hideaway is an easy Uber back to Woy Woy, hitch a ride with a driver, or there’s also a ferry from Wagstaffe (close to the pub) to Palm Beach - it's an absolutely stunning ride down Hawkesbury River. 5pm ferry goes to Palm Beach, then buses head to the CBD.
d) Our normal walks are pretty light hearted / relaxed. This is proper hiking of 12kms, so, be fit and ready for a big day. Let's enjoy nature and some of the best views in Australia. Less phones, more nature and time for pics.
e) BYO lunch, water, etc... that kind of thing. You’ll love Hardy’s at the end. Huge portions there too.
f) $10 cash or PayID for this one.
g) RSVP… honour your decision. Late no-shows / morning of cancels are bullshit for these epic sessions – people want to meet you and vice versa, it’s what makes our group the best.
See you for an unforgettable day!
Friendly hug. MJ

Ver todo- Taronga to Balmoral(ish) 10kms Return. AFL Finals. NZ v AUS Rugby. Pub! We must!Circular Quay , Sydney
With 25 and sunny the plan... a shaded 10kms hike, beach swim (optional of course) at a beautiful hidden beach, and a few beers to watch the AFL Finals & Wallabies v All Blacks is on for our team. What a day. Here we go!
THE HIKE. Taronga to George's Head.
Taronga to Balmoral is our usual, classic hike! It’s an Aussie fahkin' beauty of a session due to its diversity… Of course the ferry ride from CQuay to Taronga (ferry leaves at 932am - be early, as Saturday morning this can fill up or meet us at Taronga Wharf 944am) is amazing, and the first stint of the walk transports you to another part of Australia – it’s a rainforest start to Bradley’s Head with perfect views of Sydney Opera House / Harbour Bridge. Turning the corner we’ll stop at a secluded beach then carry on to Taylor’s Bay – the greenery / plant life there will amaze all.From there the walk heads to Chowder Bay, one of the coolest little beaches that not many Sydneysiders know of. There’s a cafe (I'll call Cafe La Mer Chowder Bay the cutest cafe in Sydney) / bathroom stop there, then up the only real incline to George’s Head: a historic military spot with the most picture perfect view from Manly to the CBD.
Typically, we head down the stairs to Balmoral, but instead we'll make this a 10kms return hike back to Taronga Ferry. When we pass Chowder Bay, let's stop for some time (30min or so) in the shade or a swim for those who fancy... Chowder Bay water is 10/10 pretty on a sunny day. After that, we trace our steps back to the ferry with great views of Sydney Harbour all the way.
THE PUB.
As a Chicago import to Sydney, am I a huge fan of AFL (230pm start time)? Or Rugby Union (3pm start time)? Not really. But do I love a pub when Aussie sport is on and locals are going BONKERS and into the spirit of the day? Damn right I do. I'll see how sign ups go in the next few days, and I'll book something for us at like 230pm in the CBD not far from the ferry. This section will be edited soon.THE DETAILS.
a) Don't be late, and feel free to bring mates / dates;
b) $10 cash or PayID;
c) Communication will be in the "Event Comments";
d) Show up if you RSVP "yes" / let's stop with the "dog ate homework" = "public transport dramas" excuses;
e) Bring some good energy, smiles and chat; and
f) Only those that hike are invited to the bar / sport festivities.WHATSAPP LINK TO CHAT IS HERE.
I love, love, love this hike. At times you’ll know you’re in Sydney… then you’ll think you’re in tropical Queensland… then you’ll find a new beach you’ve never seen. It’s such a beauty. Add beers, sport, and some perving? YES.
See you there. MJ
