Sobre nosotros
The changing climate impacts us all. Yet we barely have a conversation about it in our daily lives. Other than, perhaps, talking about the weather with our neighbours.
This group will create a safe and non-judgmental environment to talk about the changing climate and planet and how it has already impacted our lives and those you know.
We intend to meet monthly - sometimes even weekly! Our chat will be themed around a topic - we will look into the impacts of climate change on our daily lives but also bring in experts to share knowledge, tools and emotional support on solutions we already have to address the climate crisis.
Our main goal is to create human connections regardless of who you are outside this group, reflect on our common or divergent experiences and views, and learn something new!
Anyone interested in better understanding climate change, biodiversity loss and their impacts on our daily lives are welcome. No specialist knowledge is required, and even if you are just curious about the topic, please join us. If you know a fair amount on the topic, please share it with us.
We invite everyone, including those with relevant expertise, to propose topics for our upcoming meet-ups. Thank you.

Climate Action Book Club: ‘The Nutmeg’s Curse’ by Amitav Ghosh
Backstory English Bookshop, C/ de Mallorca, 330, Eixample, 08037, Barcelona, ESThe climate emergency will not be solved by reading books. But by coming together to read, to educate ourselves, to share what we learn with friends and family, and to take action in our corner of the world we can be a small part of the wave of change humanity desperately needs. Sound like something you want to be a part of? We’d love to have you.
Join the Climate Action Book Club this month to read the 'The Nutmeg's Curse: Parables for a Planet in Crisis' by Amitav Ghosh, the Bengali Indian novelist and writer who has several books on climate change.
This event is free, but please get your copy from the wonderful English bookstore that hosts our book club meetings, Backstory. You can also buy a copy from them online. To cover Meetup fees, we also request a €1 donation per attendee.
You are welcome (even encouraged) to join us even if you haven't read the book but want to hear and join the discussion about it. Feel free to bring a friend, too. Hope to see you!

Cli-Fi Book Club: 'The Water Knife' by Paulo Bacigalupi
Backstory English Bookshop, C/ de Mallorca, 330, Eixample, 08037, Barcelona, ESThe climate emergency requires more than facts alone. The transformation we need must be measured in greenhouse gas emissions averted and solar panels installed, but it is also an emotional transition, a shift in the narratives we tell, a reconnection with old wisdom and so much more. In short, it is perfectly suited for fiction.
If you are seeking such guidance, and if you want to be part of a community, we would love to have you join the Cli-Fi Club this month.
This month we are reading 'The Water Knife' by Paulo Bacigalupi, an American novelist who has won the Hugo and Nebula awards and was a finalist for the National Book Award. 'The Water Knife' is frequently included on lists of top cli-fi, but I have yet to read it. Excited to read and discuss with all of you.
This event is free, but please get your copy from the wonderful English bookstore that hosts our book club meetings, Backstory. You can also buy a copy of the book from them online. To cover Meetup fees and other costs, we also encourage a €1 donation per attendee.
About the Cli-Fi Club
We read climate fiction — ie, cli-fi — of all types. Our focus is on works that grapple seriously and thoughtful with the emotions and meaning of this moment, what may lie ahead and what may already be lost. Our selections go well beyond the stereotypical conception of cli-fi — ie, science fiction and post-apocalyptic narratives — to include a range of works that engage creatively with humanity’s great challenge, and may even leave you inspired.About this community
Are you new to the meetup group Let’s Talk About Climate Change or our WhatsApp group Mobilizing Hope? We work to bring together English-speaking people in Barcelona and beyond for climate education and action, and also community. We welcome speakers of Catalan, Castellano and other languages, but most of our events are in English because most of our organizers and attendees are more comfortable in English than other languages. We created this group because we could not find any community like it. We range from degrowthers to startup founders, from artists to data scientists. We may not agree on everything, but we all want to move in the same direction. If you do too, you’re welcome to make it your home.7 asistentes
