Spring is here, and the foothills are alive with the sights and sounds of local and migratory birds. Let's enjoy a beautiful spring evening walking and bird watching in Hahamongna Park. This is a local hotspot where Acorn Woodpeckers, Red Tailed Hawks, Phainopeplas, Blue Grey Gnatcatchers, Hooded Orioles, Western and Cassin's Kingbirds, Allen's and Anna's Hummingbirds, Yellow Rumped Warblers, and Yellow Warblers may be seen. Due to the unusually warm weather, we don't know what we'll see this year, but we're curious to find out.
We'll walk at a leisurely pace, stopping to listen and see birds along the way, for 2 miles round trip with minimal elevation gain and only a few small hill climbs.
Because this is a dry arroyo, it is very dusty. Please wear comfortable, sturdy hiking shoes or boots that you don't mind getting dirty.
Bring: sturdy footwear, hydration, snacks, binoculars, and the Merlin birding app pre-loaded on your phone.
