We are returning to our 2025 Acadia Forest restoration site to remove invasive vegetation to the North of our restored boundary. The Acadia forest has a history of disturbance, including clearing between 1930 and 1950 for planned development that never occurred, resulting in a stalled red alder forest. Due to limited seed banks after clearing, the area turned into a persistent, young red alder forest rather than maturing into a coniferous forest. EcoTEAM works to remove invasive plant species from the area with focus given to English Holly, English Ivy, and Himalayan blackberry. To jumpstart succession of a conifer forest, EcoTEAM has extensively filled in cleared areas with conifers and deciduous trees.
There are some dead Alder trees on site to be aware of, the EcoTeam leader will point them out and will advise how best to avoid them. There is a chance that the session may be cancelled if there is high wind, an email will be sent out ahead of time if this is the case. Please RSVP to attend.
Meet-up location info: Volunteers will meet at the intersection of Sword Fern Trail and University Boulevard (Across from leləm̓ at the metal tool cache) at 12:30pm sharp please. We will then walk 50 meters down Sword Fern Trail to the restoration site. There is a bike rack at the meet-up site and is close to the WB University Blvd @ 5300 Block bus stop. There is limited car parking available to volunteers at the University Chapel parking lot. Please park in spots near the cedar hedge and pick up a parking pass from the EcoTeam leader.
Thank you again to all our amazing volunteers for your hard work removing invasive plants and restoring the park!
