We are so excited to announce our next virtual meetup, which will serve as a great opportunity to learn how to embrace open-source software to implement precision medicine.

Join us for an exciting talk with Guillaume Desachy - Head of Biometrics, Pierre Fabre, on April 24 at 7 pm CEST.

Abstract:
In recent years, the pharmaceutical industry has undergone two significant paradigm shifts, each transforming the landscape of drug development and collaboration.

The first paradigm shift revolves around the implementation of precision medicine, where the concept of biomarkers plays a pivotal role. The term biomarker being widely used, one could think that its meaning is well-understood. But it is not always the case. Actually, what is a biomarker? And why are biomarkers so important?

The second paradigm shift concerns the adoption of programming languages, notably the rise of R alongside traditional tools like SAS. Up until recently, one had to choose between R and SAS. Today, professionals with a quantitative background possess proficiency in at least two programming languages, reflecting the pharmaceutical industry's evolving technological landscape. Community-driven knowledge-sharing has emerged as a cornerstone in navigating these advancements.

With this in mind, I led the development of a community of R users within a big pharma. Over a span of three years, this community experienced exponential growth, expanding from 200 members to 1,600+ members.

In the development of this community, three pivotal questions emerged:

1. What is the value of your community?
2. What is a Key Performance Indicator (KPI) of your community?
3. What is the Return On Investment (ROI) of your community?

Back in 2022, we were not able to answer these questions, but things changed drastically in 2023!

During this R-Ladies Paris MeetUp, you will hear what the value of a community is, its KPI and its ROI and why building a community is key to drive innovation to bring medicines to patients.
