The Hiking Group - CT & NY

This will be approximately a 6+ mile hike with some difficulty in the beginning and about 900 to 1,200ft in elevation gain during the hike depending on the weather.

We will park by the bathrooms and start on the Violet trail. Route and length of hike, timewise also, are weather dependent. Please arrive ten/fifteen minutes early because we plan to start promptly at the time listed.

Be prepared and smart so please include:

• Snacks and water
• Layered clothing
• Proper footwear

We will be hiking the Peoples State Forest Loop which will take us through most of the park. It begins with a good uphill climb through pretty varied forests which will be rewarded with great views overlooking the Farmington River valley! Later we will check out Beaver Brook on the boardwalk and maybe take a look in the Nature Museum if it's open.

Deer Pond Farm covers 835 acres of rugged hardwood forest, meadows and wetlands straddling the state borders of Connecticut and New York. Situated between elevations of 900 and 1,200 feet, there are many vistas to enjoy along the trails. The sanctuary is open year-round, seven days a week, from dawn to dusk.

Please arrive a few minutes early because we plan to start promptly at time listed. If you RSVP “YES” and can’t make it, PLEASE change your RSVP so the next person on the waitlist can attend. If picnic is scheduled, please bring something that could be shared (i.e. potluck).

B-level 6 mile hike on the Beaver Pond Trail and part of the blue Tunxis Trail, with a trek to the Sessions Woods tower. Not for slow hikers or social walkers. There is a small hill where we have to do some rock scrambling. No dogs.

Driving Directions: It's best to click on the map in the Meetup phone app for driving navigation. Sessions Woods is on Route 69, 341 Milford Rd, in Burlington. If driving from the south, go over the Bristol-Burlington town line, go past Tonn's Marketplace on the right, and you will see Sessions Woods up the hill on the left.
