TOG Watch Night: The Secret Life of Components (Tim Hunkin)
TOG Watch Night: The Secret Life of Components (Tim Hunkin)
We’re kicking off a new bi-weekly Monday Watch Night at TOG. We’ll watch an episode of Tim Hunkin’s “The Secret Life of Components” together, then have a relaxed Q&A and discussion afterwards.
This is a friendly, low-pressure way to learn the kind of practical tips you normally only pick up through years of making, fixing, and building. Perfect for beginners, makers, repair folks, and engineers who enjoy the practical side of components and mechanisms.
How it works
\- Watch together \(one episode per night\)
\- Q&A and chat after: questions\, examples\, tangents\, and “how would we do this at TOG?”
\- If you miss a week\, no stress\. Watch it at home and come along to the next one
First session
\- Monday 26 January
\- Episode 1: Chain
\- Free and open to all
\- TOG Hackerspace \(Dublin 12\, D12 CF6V\)

POTA on Easter Monday from Ticknock
Join us on **Easter Monday, 6 April**, for a **Parks on the Air (POTA)** outing from **Ticknock** in the Dublin Mountains.
If you have not come across POTA before, it is all about bringing amateur radio into the great outdoors, setting up in a qualifying park, and making contacts from the field. We did a quieter test run on Bull Island recently and it went well, so this time we are opening it up to the wider **TOG community and the public**.
We will meet at **10:30am** at the **Ticknock café** and then head off to find a good place to set up and operate. We expect to be on air for around **two hours**.
You are very welcome to come along, help out, and even have a go on the radio using the **club callsign EI0TOG**. Jeffrey Roe, **EI7IRB**, will be leading the activation.
Jeffrey is planning to cycle out, but there is parking nearby too. If radio is not really your thing, or you do not want to stay for the whole activation, Ticknock has plenty of walks so you can still join us for part of the outing.
After the POTA activation, there are also IRTS 2m and 70cm contests running, so anyone who wants to keep the radio fun going is welcome to do that too.
As always, this one is weather dependent. If the conditions are awful, we will give it a miss rather than spend another Monday getting soaked.
Read the full details here: https://www.tog.ie/2026/04/pota-on-easter-monday-from-ticknock/
We hope to see some of you there in person, or hear from you on the bands.

!!SATURDAY!! Dublin Korean Culture @ Drunken Fish !!SATURDAY!!
SATURDAY MEET UP
Let's mingle with anybody and everybody who's simply interested in Korean or Irish culture. This is a group for anyone looking to get out and about, meet new people, socialise and enjoy a night out. It will be for all to have loads of craic. Looking forward to seeing old and new faces.
**For this week** **we have booked a table for us upstairs in the name of Dublin Korean Culture Meet Up. When entering the restaurant please ask for our group.**
Our aim is to create a friendly, sociable and safe way for people to meet and discuss Korean and Irish culture. If you been made to feel uncomfortable or have seen inappropriate behaviour at a meet up then please contact one of our organisers in confidence.
As the Covid is still around please only come if you're feeling well.
\*\*\* PLEASE RSVP \*\*\*

It is not necessary to buy food, but if you don't please buy at least one drink as restaurants have had a hard time during the pandemic.
\*\*\* This meetup is for adults only (18+) except where accompanied by a parent or legal guardian (proof of status e.g. court documents may be requested) \*\*\*
How to get to the meet up:
*LUAS* \- the Drunken Fish is right next to the Mayor Square \- NCI Luas stop on the red line
*DART/Irish Rail* \- Dublin Connolly is probably the easiest station for most people\, but the Docklands station is also close
*PARKING* \- the carpark for the National College of Ireland \(NCI\) is probably the most convenient and only charges 5 euro for the whole evening after 5\.30pm
Meetup details below:
New faces welcome!! Bring your 친구 too.
[Place] Drunken Fish Restaurant/Bar, The Excise Building, Mayor Street Lower, IFSC, Dublin 1

\*Bring your ID if you're lucky enough to look under 25! ;)
\*There's no admission fee for our meetup however, you'll be kindly asked to purchase at least 1 drink after your arrival. As you could probably imagine, it's not so easy to book such a big place on a Friday evening in Dublin city centre and your cooperation in this will greatly help us to secure the place for our future gatherings.
\*Take good care of your own belongings and do not consume more alcohol than you can handle, Meetup organisers nor venue management do not hold any responsibilities on lost items before/during or after the meetup.
Hope to see you all there! :)
What is beauty?
We’ve all made the exclamation: “now, that is beautiful!” And life seems better, richer for it. What do we mean by ‘beauty’? What qualities does something require in order to be classified in such a way? What things can be given such label? Are there things that do not deserve to be called beautiful? Is beauty restricted to physicality? Is beauty merely subjective or does it have an objective framework? Is it a matter of the feminine side of life? Is it something internal or external?
Come along next Tuesday evening at the lovely Third Space Cafe Smithfield for a facilitated discussion about beauty. Newcomers are welcome.
NOTE: we ask for a 3 Euro donation to cover expenses. Pay on the evening by coin or Revolut.
Socrates Cafe: a space where ideas and dialogue can flourish.
reviving gardans, Growing community
**Hands in the Soil: Community Growing, Learning & Craic**
This first gathering will be a relaxed mix of **hands-on garden work, shared learning, and good conversation**. It’s about getting together in a real space, doing something practical, and seeing what ideas and connections might grow from there.
On the day, we’ll:
* Get our **hands dirty** with some light garden work and soil prep
* Do some **seed sowing** and talk about what grows well locally
* **Make kombucha together** and chat about fermentation, food, and simple home practices
* Share knowledge, questions, and experiences around growing food
* Enjoy some **fellowship, chats, and a bit of craic** along the way.Alongside the practical side, we’ll also have an open, informal discussion about a bigger idea:
* The possibility of **small community “park farms” or gardens** in underused green spaces around Dublin
* What that might look like, what’s realistic, and whether others feel drawn to exploring it further
There’s no pressure, no expertise required, and no expectation beyond showing up with curiosity and a willingness to pitch in. Whether you’re experienced with gardening or completely new, you’re very welcome.
Bring clothes you don’t mind getting muddy, and if you have them, gloves. Everything else will be very low-key.
This is just a **first step** — a chance to meet, work, talk, and see if there’s a shared appetite to keep growing something together.
Turkish Speaking Club Meetup: Fun Conversations

Whether you are a beginner or fluent in Turkish, this is the perfect opportunity to practice your language skills in a relaxed and friendly environment. Come and connect with like-minded individuals who share a passion for the Turkish language and culture. Let's have a great time together while immersing ourselves in the beauty of Turkish traditions and creativity!

Seeing Against The Grain (Ishmael Claxton)
**To Get Ticket:** https://www.eventbrite.ie/e/seeing-against-the-grain-ishmael-claxton-tickets-1984137562862?aff=ebdssbdestsearch
An artist talk with Ishmael Claxton. Meet and connect with creatives.
**Ishmael Claxton is a Dublin based visual artist and photographer working across photography, installation, and curatorial collaboration.**
**For this event he wil be presenting his work and ideas for an evening of creativity and discussion.**
His practice is shaped by a mix of mathematics, art history, costume design, and creative installation, giving his image making a curious, layered edge.
Photography is Ishmael’s main tool for thinking through identity, migration, power, and belonging. His work moves between documentary and staged moments, blending the real and the imagined to reflect the instability of contemporary life. Influenced by surrealism, pop art, futurism, and Afro futurist imaginaries, his images are bold, colourful, and charged with symbolic weight.
His work has been exhibited widely across Ireland and internationally, including PhotoMuseum Ireland, the RHA, the Hunt Museum, and the National Concert Hall.
He has been recognised by LensCulture, Taylor Wessing, the Royal Photographic Society, and Shutter Hub’s 100 Photographers of Tomorrow. Ishmael is also a co founder of ÍOVA Collective, supporting photographer led practice in Ireland.

Special note on parking: Please try to park along Acton, Richards and/or Chatham streets so as to free up the lot at the back of the building for pick-up orders. Thank you. 😊

Tour of Brothers Drake Meadery and mead/tea tasting
Join us for a tour of Brothers Drake Meadery in Grandview, hosted by the owner Oron Benary. He will explain the mead-making process and offer us generous samples of their fine meads.
Mead is basically wine that is made from honey instead of grapes. There are many different flavors that range from dry, semi-dry, semi-sweet, to sweet. They are best known for their Apple Pie Mead.
Oron has offered us a special price of 5.00 each person for the tour and tasting, which is normally 25.00 per person. I've taken the tour several times, and it's always enlightening and fun.
Rebecca will bring a tea that will pair well with the mead for a tea tasting afterwards.
Park anywhere around the building. Please avoid parking in front of the houses in the neighborhood behind the Meadery.
Please keep your RSVP current. Knowing how many will attend will help Brothers Drake plan accordingly to accommodate us.
IxDA Chat ‘n Pancakes
Pay attention! We’re delaying a week for those of you who may be on Spring break and/or celebrating the holiday. Ok, no pancakes, but waffles-a-plenty.
Join the local UX and Digital Design community for a casual monthly breakfast.
Look for us upstairs!
