Hello Rockers! Let's get together and jam out some top hits since the new millennium (since 1/1/2000) at Crescendo Studios in Falls Church, VA. This will be a new venue for our jams and will probably be more accommodating to access for many of our DC Rockers members. The studio is located near the Mosaic District in Merrifield on the eastbound side of Lee Highway (US-29). We'll be in Studio A on the first floor of the studio which is mostly-equipped with a drum kit, keyboard, sound system, amps and mics. Attendees will be expected to bring their own instruments but should not need to bring amps or speakers. \*\*\* NEW TIME AND NEW LOCATION \*\*\* Now that the weather is warm, we'll throw in some outdoor SOJOs. Be sure to check the website to confirm time and location for each session. Very important that you RSVP so we can contact you if weather forces us to cancel or revert to our indoor location. Bring your folding chairs and join us at Quincy Park at 12:00 Noon. Quincy Park is easy to find, only .3 miles from the chapel. There is plenty of street parking available on weekends on N. Nelson and Washington Blvd. There is also a parking lot on the northwest corner of the park with an entrance on N. Quincy. Check out the map posted on this page. You'll find us near the picnic tables or playground area. See you at SOJO! Seasoned SOJO'ers already know the program, but below are all the details which may be helpful to our new members. MOST IMPORTANT POINTS: 1. If you have copies of Rise Up Singing and Rise Again, please bring them. If you don't, we may have some extras available for you to borrow (one time only, please). Both books are easy to find and order online. 2. Feel free to bring lyrics and chords to hand out for songs not in the book. If you'd like to bring a song that most people don't know well, see if you can find a YouTube link and post it in the comments when you RSVP. We'd like to listen a few times before the SOJO to get the hang of it. 3. Bring something to drink, as singing is likely to make you thirsty. 4. We appreciate but do not require, any contributions ($5, or whatever) to help pay for the rent at the chapel. 5. Please do RSVP. It allows us to contact you if we have to cancel. *** * Our regular gatherings take place on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month. You can come for the whole time or just part of it. Occasionally we take pictures of our events. If you would rather not be photographed, just politely let the person with the camera know and step out of view. We'll be very respectful of your wishes. Socrates Cafés are gatherings around the world where people from different backgrounds get together and exchange thoughtful ideas and experiences while embracing the Socratic Method; the idea that we learn more when we question, and question with others. Although this may be considered a "philosophical" group, there are no rules as to what is discussed. Those attending decide upon the questions of the night. Usually, the topics revolve around social concerns, moral issues, and the first principles of things. Prior to each meeting we vote online for the questions we will discuss. That way, we will have enough time to ruminate on them and have more in-depth conversations. If you RSVP to a meeting, you may post your question in the event comments section below. I'll send out a survey for voting a few days prior to the meetup. We discuss two questions each night. So you will get to cast two votes in the survey. When we meet, we break into smaller groups of five to seven to discuss the top two vote-getters. Each group discusses one question for around 45-50 minutes, and we then take a short break. [The Conservatory Classic Jazz Band](http://www.ccjazzband.com/) opens and closes the music, with a Jam Session at the end of each set. All are welcome to sit in or just sit back and enjoy! [The Conservatory Classic Jazz Band](http://www.ccjazzband.com/) was formed in 2003 to present the sounds of traditional jazz to Washington DC audiences. A seven-piece group, they play New Orleans style, Chicago style, small-group swing, and mainstream. CCJB members include Dave Robinson, leader/cornet/trumpet, Brian Priebe on trombone, Gary Gregg on clarinet/sax, Dan Hall on bass, Jeff Reynolds on guitar/banjo, Brian Alpert on drums. There is plenty or room for you and your friends. We could fit 100 people in there. That said, we do recommend, if you want a table for your group, arrive early. There will be **two concurrent hikes** (see below for meeting places & times) along the C&O Canal towpath with multiple options for **distances of 14 to 36 miles**. Whatever distance you do, the hike will afford you some of the most beautiful views of the Potomac River (the approach to Harpers Ferry), let you observe wildlife and wildflowers, and let you explore (a little bit) historic Harpers Ferry. Here are some **[photo albums](https://sites.google.com/view/wandering-soles/one-day-hike/training-hikes/co-canal-to-harpers-ferry)** of previous versions of this hike. **Long hikers** will start at Point of Rocks and hike to Harpers Ferry and back (28 miles; 5.8 blisters), with the option of going up to 4 miles past the start before returning (for up to 36 miles total; 7.4 blisters). **Short hikers** will start at Brunswick and hike to Harpers Ferry and back (14 miles; 3 blisters), with the option of going to Point of Rocks (21 miles total; 4.4 blisters). Our primary groups are outdoor movement groups, but we are launching virtual groups for the state of Ohio and beyond and the groups will move outside in the spring, creating room for men's groups, women's groups and coed groups all over the country. Read below to learn about our groups and click the links at the bottom to apply. ### **What is an Outdoor Empowerment Group?** Our Outdoor Movement & Community Empowerment Groups are simple, guided experiences designed to help people reconnect with nature, themselves, and others.
