The Valley Forge Audubon Society (VFAS) is a chapter of the National Audubon Society serving those residing in Southeastern Pennsylvania, including Delaware and Chester Counties, and parts of Montgomery and Philadelphia Counties. Our mission is to preserve birds, other wildlife, and their habitats by promoting appreciation and stewardship of the local natural environment through education and active participation. VFAS offers regular bird walks, hikes, events, and educational programs. Valley Forge Audubon Society is committed to inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility in the birding community and beyond. We are excited to bring the joys of birding – the fun of seeing or hearing birds, the social benefits of being part of a like-minded community, and the health and wellness benefits humans receive from spending time in nature – to “everyone and every body”, regardless of someone’s physical, mental, emotional, or societal challenges. Long-time birders, ‘fledgling’ birders, able-bodied birders, and those with disabilities and health concerns are all welcome at VFAS’s programs.
We offer a number of outings that are accessible for those with various access challenges and/or health concerns.

Wild birds and farming - can they peacefully coexist? As we've seen during our other monthly field trips to Lundale Farm this year, the answer is a resounding yes!
During last month's outing we discovered three new species of birds not previously observed at Lundale: Acadian Flycatcher, Chestnut-sided Warbler, and most exciting of all, a male/female pair of Blue Grosbeaks! With breeding season underway, some young birds had already fledged and were being fed by their parents, while some other birds were just beginning to nest. What will we see in July?
Lundale Farm is a community of regenerative farmers working to enhance the ecology, health, and diversity of the land. Because the farm is sustainably managed, it not only provides fresh local food for consumers but also provides excellent habitat in which birds can thrive. In addition, the Lundale community has been proactive in providing human-made nesting boxes for birds such as American Kestrels, Barn Owls, Eastern Bluebirds, Tree Swallows, and - if you count the silo - Common Ravens.
Join us for this birding outing where we can learn more about Lundale Farm and the "old-is-new" techniques that are utilized to ensure that the farmlands remain productive for birds and people alike.
Our trip will cover 1-2 miles along the gravel farm road. Please bring binoculars if you have them and wear sturdy shoes. Beginners and children (accompanied by an adult) are always welcome at Valley Forge Audubon Society events.
A portable toilet is available on site.

Explore everything Valley Forge Audubon Society has to offer in a relaxed and friendly setting. There will be plenty of time for mingling and the opportunity to learn more about VFAS's mission. Meet other VFAS participants, ask questions of our board members, watch a year-in-review slideshow of program participants' photos, test your knowledge at our bird ID game, enjoy a great presentation on owls, and go birding with us!
Light refreshments will be served. Children are welcome to attend if accompanied by an adult.
