Dear Friends,
I completely understand that there is not a unanimity of opinion on getting the COVID vaccine. I do strongly support the vaccine, and we are in the middle of a nationwide and worldwide campaign to reverse the spread of COVID and save lives. Having said all that, I do realize that there are people of good conscience who are choosing not to get vaccinated.
At these meetups, many people come together. Often, a large number of people do attend. In my judgment, to satisfy the needs and desires of those people who have chosen to get vaccinated, and to support the public health goals of the United States, the best policy is to allow attendance only by people who have been completely vaccinated by June 12.
It is my hope that by June 12, everyone who wants to get vaccinated will have had the chance to make appointments and to complete their course of vaccination. This is why the June 26 event date was chosen. If it is your desire to get vaccinated, and you find that you are unable to complete your vaccination course by June 12, then we do apologize for the early timing of this event. And we do very much hope to see you at future events.
It is not my intention or plan to permanently restrict attendance at this meetup group to people who have been vaccinated. I will be paying close attention to CDC guidelines, and scientific and public health judgments and opinions regarding this. We are all hoping that the prevalence of COVID infection in our population will be going way down in the next few months and through the end of the year. And that the prevalence of COVID in the general population will be so low that it will be advisable to allow non-vaccinated people to attend our events in the future. Thank you.
