We will meet at the base of the Parachute Jump at 7:30 PM

Subway: F, Q, R, N trains to Coney Island Stillwell Avenue.

Coney Island has fireworks on the beach every Friday during the summer. It's the perfect place to shoot some long exposures or practice sunset and low-light evening photography.

So get ready for some sunset photography. After the sun goes down, we can shoot long exposures of the rides and attractions in anticipation of the main event: the fireworks!

The fireworks start at 9:45 PM. Luna Park recommends that the main area of the amusement park is one of the best places to watch the sky light up above the rides. The boardwalk or the beach itself are also great viewpoints.

Those who aren't interested in the fireworks can continue shooting long exposures of the rides.

Tripods would be useful at this Meetup, but owners need to be mindful of the amusement park rules, and careful of other people when using them. Otherwise, all cameras, cell phones and picture-taking devices of all sorts are welcome, as are all persons at any skill level. Just come and enjoy an evening at the seaside.

Please be on time! The NYC Subway System is a hellscape of unimaginable delays that will wreak havoc on your mind, body, schedule, and soul. Plan your trip with some extra time! However, at this meetup we won’t be far away and should be easy to find on the boardwalk if you should arrive late.

Let’s spend a Saturday afternoon visiting many of the tiny but interesting gardens hidden on the streets of the East Village in Manhattan.

We can meet Saturday August 1st at 1:00pm on the corner outside El Churro, Allan Street and East Houston Street.

Closest subway is the F train 2nd Ave. Station which has an exit right across the street on Allan.

Unbeknownst to many, there are quite a number of tiny creative community gardens between our meeting point and East 14th Street and most are only open to the general public on Saturday afternoons. I have a map showing 15 of them but I’m not sure we will be able to visit all or if all will be open. We should be able to visit most of them but we will need to walk quite a bit so please wear good comfortable shoes. These gardens have been created in vacant lots sometimes after struggles against developers wishing to build there. The community won most of these cases and the gardens now exist in perpetuity. Some gardens are more creative than others but most are quite worth a visit.

Along with the gardens we will wander the East Village streets very often a great location for street photography. This will be a good opportunity to practice diverse genres of creative photography as well as some good physical exercise.

Start the weekend off with a great walk viewing Manhattan's East Side at Sunset from high on the Pulaski Bridge as we walk from Queens over to Brooklyn.

Friday, August 14th. We will meet on 49th Avenue in Queens outside of the Hunter's Point Subway Station on the 7 train at 7:00 pm.

Once we are all assembled, we will head towards the Pulaski Bridge. We will wander slowly across the bridge, over Newtown Creek towards Brooklyn enjoying great views of the city as the daylight fades into the evening. We will also enjoy the sunset at 7:55 pm and the following blue hour.

After the bridge we can shoot the views of Manhattan's East Side from the Greenpoint waterfront where we can practice long exposures and night shooting.

This is quite a long walk so please wear comfortable shoes . We will eventually find the L train in Williamsburg and return back to Manhattan. An alternative would be the G train which will be close by.

This is a golden hour, blue hour, and night shooting event so a tripod would be really useful. Don’t forget charged batteries and empty memory cards.

One time we did this walk during a blackout and we got to watch the lights go out in Manhattan. I doubt that will happen this time but I hope you will join me.
