Let's Create an Improvised Musical!
Like Improv Storytelling, Music or singing?
In this session we will combine these elements to create an improvised musical blending the story of theatre, the fun of improv and the magic of music.
We'll start off with some singing and improv warm up activities, do a quick rundown of story structure, suggest a topic and then get into exploring the world and characters a (musical) scene at a time, hopefully reaching some sort of satisfying conclusion!
This time I would like to practice having a clear and simple chorus.
Based on interest, we'll take turns acting and singing in the scene or being musicians. Some level of experience to improv theatre, music, role-playing games or similar is recommended (but not compulsory). for people who want to do music- If you know basic chord progressions you're qualified enough to do music!
I will bring a keyboard and acoustic guitar, but BYO other instruments, voice and snacks.
Last time it was a lot of fun, so we hope to recreate that magic again!
attendance fee is $10, payable on the day
Also, if you do plan on coming, us know instrument if any you're wanting to bring! However just bringing your voice is fine as well
See you there! đ
Sunday Meditation | Community Building | Connection | Meet New People
**Who We are..... đ¤**
Our journey to bring people together began in January of 2022. The group was started with a simple intention to gather and meet some likeminded people - connecting through the powerful act of meditation and sharing our genuine selves while sitting in a circle that represents equality, harmony and wholeness( *we believe everyone in the circle is a teacher and a student at the same time)*.
And over the last 4 years of consistently coming together, we have fostered a beautiful, loving, dependable community where members from all walks of life have experienced a sacred space to sit in silence together and meditate, share their authentic selves, give presence to others and forge meaningful and long lasting connections.
The Meditations are guided by Sana(co-founder and host), who is a Trained and certified meditation teacher by the Meditation Association of Australia, and has been guiding meditations for 3+ years in corporate and community settings.
⨠**Do you wish to....**
* Experience a simple yet powerful meditation and breathing practice to find calm, relaxation and clarity
* Connect with like-minded people in your local community and foster meaningful connections
* Meet others who are passionate about growing, uplifting themselves, and supporting others
* Share insights from your personal journey (or simply listen and learn)
Or maybe you just want to...

Philosophy Roundtable: How do we know what is true?
Please join us this Sunday as we discuss how do we know what is true.
**We will meet at the Queensberry Hotel, 593 Swanston Street, Carlton at 2pm for a 2:15pm start sharp.**
**We kindly ask attendees to pay $5 to attend to help with MeetUp costs & venue costs. This is not mandatory, but if you are a regular member it would be appreciated. Any extra moneys will go towards buying food and drinks for the table. The venue also expects us to spend money as a group, so grateful if everyone could buy a drink from the venue.**
If the Queensberry is shut, we will still meet there and move to a nearby pub or the park at about 2:20pm.
There is no pre-requisite preparation necessary, nor a philosophical background, all that is required is a curious mind. These discussions are both a Socrates Cafe style discussion and lively metaphysical dojo, in the spirit of learning and friendly debate, so please feel free to challenge assumptions and be prepared to have your own assumptions challenged.
This event is also posted in the Socrates Cafe group.
Find below some questions or topics to consider, however these are free-ranging events and the below serve as a springboard for the discussion:
* What is true belief? Does it require a good method?
* Truth vs justification
* Sources of belief - empiricism, reason, testimony, intuition
* Gettier problems
* Bias and distortion - confirmation bias, motivated reasoning, social identity effects
* Do people using good methods converge on the truth?
* Good principles for forming beliefs in real life.
Hope to see you there!

April Book ClubâGlossy: Ambition, Beauty, and the Inside Story of Glossier
**Discover the making of a beauty empire with our April book club pick**
Our April book club explores the untold story behind Glossier, the millennial beauty brand that redefined the industry. Journalist Marisa Meltzer takes readers inside Emily Weiss's meteoric journey from beauty blogger to billion-dollar founder, revealing the ambition, innovation, and ultimately the cracks that emerged in building a cult brand.
**About the book**
In this book, Meltzer chronicles how Weiss transformed her blog Into The Gloss into Glossier, a beauty empire that championed "skin first, makeup second" and turned customers into devoted fans. Through extensive reporting and insider access, the book exposes the reality behind the Instagram-perfect facadeâfrom the company's stratospheric growth to internal tensions, workplace culture challenges, and the pressures of venture capital expectations.
**What you'll gain**
* An inside look at how Weiss built a brand by listening to customers and leveraging social media in revolutionary ways
* The untold story of what happens when a founder's vision collides with the demands of Silicon Valley investors and rapid scaling
* Real insights into the beauty industry's transformation and the costs of building a "cool girl" empire in the age of Instagram

Coffee Meetup: Minimal living and Tiny Home Living
**About this event:** Have you been dreaming of going tiny? Are you curious about minimal living, off-grid setups, or just downsizing your life in Victoria?
You are not alone! We are launching a new community for enthusiasts to connect, share stories, and support one another.
Imagine a life with less clutter, less debt, and more freedom.
We are building a community in Victoria for those who want to step away from the traditional housing market and embrace tiny homes and minimal living.
For our first-ever meetup, we are keeping it simple. Weâll meet in the park to introduce ourselves and discuss what we want to create together. Whether you want to talk about the technical side (trailers, solar, regulations) or the lifestyle side (downsizing, remote work), this is the place to start.
Come along, make new friends, and letâs talk about how to make big dreams happen in tiny spaces.
**What to expect:** This is a strictly casual, unstructured meetup. No presentations, no sales pitches, and no pressure. Just a relaxed afternoon in the park with like-minded people.
Weâre simply gathering to discuss:
* Who is already living the tiny life?
* Who is dreaming/planning?
* What are the local hurdles (council rules, finding land, etc.)?
* How can we support each other?
**Who should come:** Whether you have your tiny house plans drawn up, you're already living in one, or you just watched a documentary and thought "I could do that"âyou are welcome here.
**About Your Host**
Hi, Iâm Karen. After exploring over 50 countries, Iâve chosen Melbourne as my home. As an entrepreneur, Iâve come to realize that we don't need much to be truly happy. In fact, nature provides us with so many "free luxuries"âfrom sunlight to green spacesâthat we often overlook in the modern world.
I am channeling this philosophy into building my own tiny home in Victoria this year. I started this group because I realized that while the tiny house movement is growing, the journey can feel a bit lonely. I want to build a supportive local community where we can share resources, untangle the regulations, and help each other turn these small dreams into reality.
* **Wet Weather Plan:** (e.g., "If it rains, we will move to a cafe close by.")

Creativity Circle: Bead Bracelets and Keychains
In April WQC's Creativity Circle will be making beaded bracelets and keychains! All supplies provided, open to all, bring yourself (and a friend or two) for when you are able to make it in the two hour window. Note: Seats are Limited to the provided space at the Westerville Public Library in Meeting Room D.
The Story So Far: A WiA Reflection Circle
A WiA Collective Wisdom Exchange
At the start of this year, we gathered to look back, set intentions, and imagine the next chapter.
This is the follow-up.
Not a check-in. Not a progress report. A small, facilitated circle to reconnect with what you said mattered â and honestly explore whatâs actually happening now.
Together, weâll explore:
⢠What you intended at the start of this year - and what that looks like three months in
⢠Whatâs surprised you, supported you, or shifted
⢠What the next chapter needs now that you know what you know
If you were at our January gathering, bring whatever you made or wrote â your word, your artifact, your intention. Weâll look at it with fresh eyes. If this is your first time, you belong here too. Youâll start where we all started: with whatâs true right now.
Optional art materials will be available for anyone who wants to reflect creatively alongside conversation. If you brought something home from January, youâre warmly invited to bring it back.
The intention is the same as always: everyone leaves feeling more clear, more connected, and a little lighter.
Space is intentionally limited to keep the experience intimate.
What to Expect
⢠A small, welcoming circle (not a large meetup)
⢠Structured conversation so everyone has space to speak
⢠Reflection, listening, and lived experience â not advice-giving
⢠Optional creative reflection alongside conversation
⢠A calm, supportive environment
Who This Is For
Women and underrepresented folks working in or around agile, product, technology, leadership, or organizational change â especially those looking for honest conversation and community beyond frameworks and buzzwords.
Good to Know
⢠No preparation required
⢠If you attended in January, we invite you to bring anything you created or wrote (or something that represents your intention at the start of the year) - itâs optional but invited
⢠Participation is invitational; listening is always welcome
⢠Creative activities are optional
Prompt vs. Paintbrush
AI is changing how art is made. But when does it stop being your work and start being the machineâs?
This month we're going to be doing a panel with with digital image, music, and written word artists, talking about at what point, while using AI in the creation process, does the work become not the artist creation?
We encourage audience participation during this event that will be moderated by Chris Slee.
Whether youâre deep in the field or just getting curious, come connect with others building and exploring AI in Columbus.

Speak Easy (Storytelling)
The topic for April is "Water"
Speak Easy: true stories, told live.
The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast.
Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect.
The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills. We strongly encourage tellers to please tell the story rather than read it so we keep within the spirit of good storytelling and stay engaged with the audience. All are welcome. Hang around after the show for a drink and build community!
