Clicking ***Attend*** on Meetup ***does not guarantee you a ticket***. Make sure to click below to confirm your spot :) **RSVP ≠ ticket.** A paid ticket is required to attend. **[ Sign up here to grab your ticket ](https://luma.com/ftst4paris)** On your phone and can’t click? Click the link in the comments :) F\*ck the Small Talk has traveled the world from Berlin, London, Lisbon, to Buenos Aires, and is now in **Paris**! **\*\* WHAT'S THIS ABOUT?\*\*** FTST is an out-of-the-box **social experience** where strangers come together for an afternoon of meaningful, fun, and deep conversation. It’s also a different & cool way of meeting new people by getting a bit out of your comfort zone and skipping the small talk! Join us for **games**, **talks**, and **connections** with **friends you haven’t met yet**. Join if you get annoyed after being asked what you do, where you are from, and how long you've been in Paris every single time you meet someone. If you feel that there are better questions in life, this is the place for you. **\*\* HOW DOES IT WORK?\*\*** We start with a short & sweet intro talk followed by a few light-hearted group games to warm up. After that, we split you up into small groups and start with the conversation rounds (with 3-4 people). We'll have awesome question cards that will guide the flow of the conversation. You'll be guided by an experienced host (Camila, you'll love her!) who'll make sure everything goes smoothly. **\*\* HOW TO JOIN?\*\*** **[Take 1 minute to sign up](https://luma.com/ftst4paris)** On your phone and can’t click? Click the link in the comments :) Our events are **limited to 30 handpicked guests** to ensure a cozy atmosphere. **Confirm your spot on the link above** to make it happen! We prioritize a balance of gender and age. If you're invited you'll receive a confirmation within 48 hours via Luma (our ticketing platform) NOTE: We won't validate your payment unless you've been accepted! (which you most likely will ❀) **\*\* HOW MUCH IS IT?\*\*** The cost to attend is €15.00 (early bird) or €18.00 (general), and includes the following: ⏰ 3 hours of facilitated and curated activities Light snacks to keep the energy going Access to the Llamas in Paris WhatsApp community A space to meet new people in the least boring way possible Supporting our mission to spread human connection events around the world *( also includes those annoying ticket fees!)* **\*\* WHERE IS IT?\*\*** We host our events in awesome bars across the city. We only **reveal the exact location** upon confirmation. **\*\* WHAT THEY SAY\*\*** “This is the kind of activity **humanity needs every weekend**. Thank you for all.” - *Sonya* “F\*ck the Small Talk changes the narrative from "Where are you from?" to "When was the last time you laughed uncontrollably?" and I think that's beautiful.” - Monika "It’s a **wonderful** **experience**, it’s like being a kid again, when you were at the park, playing with other kids, and just decided you were going to be best friends for the next hours. Maybe you’ll never see those kids again. But that hour was amazing because you both opened up and trusted each other." - Sara **[Read our 170+ Google reviews here](https://goo.gl/maps/TpZy77bfPFkGoikn7)** *(we ain't your typical meetup)* **\*\* FAQ\*\*** **‱ Can I come alone?** Of course, everyone does! **‱ Can I be late?** Please don't! Late arrivals will disrupt the floooooooow. **‱ I signed up but never got an invite. Why?** We usually get a high volume of sign-ups, yet we like keeping it cozy & only invite around 30 people. Please try again next time if you do not receive an invite - no hard feelings **‱ Is this a networking or dating event?** Nope! Think of us as the *anti-networking* and *anti-speed dating* event. There’s no pressure, no pitches, and no cringy icebreakers. Instead, we create spaces where strangers can connect through fun & meaningful conversations. It’s all about authentic connection, no business cards or romantic expectations required. (doesn’t mean it *can’t* happen, it’s just not the intention!)✹ * Location is only revealed to ticket holders! * Age guide, 22-39 years old (only a reference of what to expect, not a limit ) đŸ“”This event is a no-phone experience. â€đŸ“” We started in Berlin back in 2019 out of the frustration of being asked 'where are you from?' a million times at every single meetup!

Bookish Cafe: The Handmaid's Tale
Bookish Cafe: The Handmaid's Tale
Welcome to our bookish club. This time, we will be discussing a great modern classic: *The Handmaid’s Tale*. Margaret Atwood’s novel invites us into a world that feels both distant and uncomfortably familiar. A society where control, identity, and freedom are constantly negotiated and often stripped away. This is a story, a reflection on how fragile rights and autonomy can be, and how easily they can be reshaped or taken away. As for discussing the book, let’s think about the themes that stood out most to us, the moments that made us pause, and how this story resonates with today’s world or even your own world experience and view. This is an opportunity to explore, question, and share perspectives. Let’s dive in. PS: This event is free, but please sign up only if you are truly willing to come to the event. Thank you! I will check up with you beforehand. :)

For the meeting in April, we'll read and discuss Why I Write by George Orwell Sorry for the short notice to those who were there in the previous book club - having to do on an earlier date as I am no longer available on the 2nd of May - the date discussed during the meeting Description from Goodreads: Whether puncturing the lies of politicians, wittily dissecting the English character or telling unpalatable truths about war, Orwell's timeless, uncompromising essays are more relevant, entertaining and essential than ever in today's era of spin. **\*New to book club? You're welcome to join our discussion. We'll discuss our thoughts on the book and share related topics.** **\*Discussions held in English**

Welcome, readers! Our April read is **_Martyr!_ by Kaveh Akbar.** The story follows a young Iranian American poet grappling with grief, addiction, and the aching question of what makes a life meaningful. Drawn into an unexpected friendship with a terminally ill artist, he begins to confront faith, love, and the seduction of self-destruction. Lyrical, darkly funny, and emotionally piercing, the novel wrestles with beauty and despair in equal measure. It’s a story about longing—to be seen, to be forgiven, and to matter. Looking forward to discussing with everyone! We will meet at Zaftig Brewing Co in their event room in the back. We are welcome to bring in our own food, but **drinks must be purchased at the bar.** Happy reading! 📖

Welcome, readers! Our May read is **_Kindred_ by Octavia E. Butler.** The story follows Dana, a Black woman living in 1976 California, who is suddenly pulled back to a Maryland plantation before the Civil War. She learns her survival is tied to a white slaveholder’s son. Forced to move between centuries, she must endure the brutal realities of slavery while fighting to hold on to her identity. Tense, intimate, and unforgettable, Kindred explores how the past refuses to stay buried. Looking forward to discussing with everyone! We will meet at Zaftig Brewing Co in their event room in the back. We are welcome to bring in our own food, but **drinks must be purchased at the bar.** Happy reading! 📖
How Lucky by Will Leitch
How Lucky by Will Leitch
Posting this early because seemingly all Sundays in May are holidays or busy! I picked a shorter thriller that's hopefully a fast read/listen. [Columbus library link to book](https://cml.bibliocommons.com/v2/record/S105C3458940) Location: Grandview Cafe, *1455 W. 3rd Ave*, Columbus, OH 43212 [Menu](https://www.grandviewcafe.com/menu) Book summary: Daniel leads a rich life in the university town of Athens, Georgia. He's got a couple close friends, a steady paycheck working for a regional airline, and of course, for a few glorious days each Fall, college football tailgates. He considers himself to be a mostly lucky guy -- despite the fact that he's suffered from a debilitating disease since he was a small child, one that has left him unable to speak or to move without a wheelchair. Largely confined to his home, Daniel spends the hours he's not online communicating with irate air travelers observing his neighborhood from his front porch. One young woman passes by so frequently that spotting her out the window has almost become part of his daily routine. Until the day he's almost sure he sees her being kidnapped.

"Under the Oak Tree" by Suji Kim
"Under the Oak Tree" by Suji Kim
Join us for lunch/tea at Asterisk Supper Club to discuss our May book "Under the Oak Tree" by Suji Kim Lady Maximilian is the daughter of the powerful Duke Croyso, but she is rarely allowed outside her family’s sprawling castle for fear that her stutter will tarnish their noble name. When she is forced to marry Sir Riftan, a lowborn knight caught in one of her father’s schemes, Maxi doesn’t dare hope for happiness, let alone love. Her stumbling communication and his gruff manner sour their relationship before it can begin, and Riftan leaves without a word the morning after their vows are exchanged. Now, three years after their disastrous wedding night, Riftan has returned as a war hero. To Maxi’s surprise, despite rumors that he was offered marriage to Princess Agnes, a beautiful and renowned sorceress, Riftan still wants Maxi for his wife. And when he comes to claim her, his longing becomes a desire that bewilders Maxi, even as she is overcome by the scorching heat that Riftan’s presence ignites within her. As she learns to navigate the intricacies of her new life, Maxi will find herself and her courage, and discover that she is anything but powerless.
