Ciò che siamo
Welcome to Amsterdam Philosophy of Science Meetup Group!
Some questions we hope to address in this group:
- How do we distinguish between scientific claims and flawed reasoning?
- How do we know what we know?
- What is science? What is nonscience?
- Where do we base our beliefs about the world?
- What can science do?
- What are the limits of science?
- What is scientific literacy?
- What is expertise?
- What are facts?
Whether you're a seasoned scholar or simply intrigued by new ideas, our group offers a welcoming space to connect, learn, and grow.

Welcome to our second meeting! Everyone is welcome.
This week, we take a break from our text book (Godfrey-Smith) with a bit of pop culture!
After a round of introductions, we'll discuss the film Ex-Machina by Alex Garland and the reading below. Please set aside some time to get through the text. The film is nearly two hours long. If you are unable to find a copy of the film, please message me.
As you are watching/reading, please jot down questions (about the film and/or text) that you would like to pose to the group here. These can be about things that you think need clarifying, things you find puzzling, or even disagree with.

Harrison Jackson, Ex Machina: Testing Machines for Consciousness and Socio-Relational Machine EthicsHow to find us: Take the lift (left-hand side of Nemo entrance hall right next to the revolving door) to the fifth floor (Dakplein), and walk on up to the restaurant. We will sit inside, all the way to the back. I'll find us a table on the left, near the windows. Look for the table with a white bunny.
Note: If you are unable to come, please cancel 24 hours beforehand. I do not live in Amsterdam, and it takes a bit of effort for me to come. We can reschedule the event if there are less than 4 people attending. Thank you for understanding.
