Ex-Machina (Alex Garland) and Machine Ethics

Details

Welcome to our second meeting! Everyone is welcome.

This week, we take a break from our text book (Godfrey-Smith) with a bit of pop culture!

After a round of introductions, we'll discuss the film Ex-Machina by Alex Garland and the reading below. Please set aside some time to get through the text. The film is nearly two hours long. If you are unable to find a copy of the film, please message me.

As you are watching/reading, please jot down questions (about the film and/or text) that you would like to pose to the group here. These can be about things that you think need clarifying, things you find puzzling, or even disagree with.

Reading:
Harrison Jackson, Ex Machina: Testing Machines for Consciousness and Socio-Relational Machine Ethics

How to find us: Take the lift (left-hand side of Nemo entrance hall right next to the revolving door) to the fifth floor (Dakplein), and walk on up to the restaurant. We will sit inside, all the way to the back. I'll find us a table on the left, near the windows. Look for the table with a white bunny.

Note: If you are unable to come, please cancel 24 hours beforehand. I do not live in Amsterdam, and it takes a bit of effort for me to come. We can reschedule the event if there are less than 4 people attending. Thank you for understanding.
