This event is conducted 100% in Japanese and is designed for advanced speakers who can discuss abstract topics and explain their opinions in Japanese.
Decode Japan -Using Only Japanese-
Can you explain Japan using only Japanese?
This is not a lecture.
This is not a language class.
This is not a debate about right or wrong answers.
It is a discussion event for advanced Japanese learners who want to think more deeply about Japan—using only Japanese.
Each participant brings a topic or question they are curious about. If you don't have one, you can choose from a wide range of categories, such as history, pop culture, values, religion, media, or modern Japanese society.
Together, we'll explore questions like:
- Why do Japanese people value harmony?
- What does anime tell us about Japanese society?
- How has history shaped modern Japan?
- Why do certain social norms exist?
The goal is not to memorize facts, but to express your own ideas, ask questions, and explore different perspectives—all in Japanese.
What you'll practice
- Explaining complex ideas in Japanese
- Asking thoughtful questions
- Sharing your own observations and experiences
- Comparing cultures and viewpoints
- Thinking critically about Japan through Japanese

【About the Organizer】
Born and raised in Tokyo.
After studying law at the University of Tokyo and working at Goldman Sachs, I spent more than a decade teaching students, professionals, and business owners.
Over time, I realized that many learners needed more than language skills.
They wanted to understand Japan itself.
That realization led me to create Decoding Japan Lab.
