Join me for my first hiking event of 2026! 🎍🧧🎊🥳🎉 We will hike up the 678m Pon Pon mountain north of Takatsuki, Osaka. This mountain straddles the border of Osaka and Kyoto prefectures.

We can expect to see snowy peaks in the background and have a lovely 360° view of Kansai. This place is one of Kansai’s hidden secrets, unknown to many locals.

We will start our hike after exiting the bus in the village of Hara. Next, we will visit Kabusan-ji temple.

Located in the mountains of Takatsuki City, Nemuneyama Kabusanji Temple was founded by En no Gyoja in 697. It is the first sacred place in Japan where Bishamonten was enshrined, and three statues of Bishamonten are enshrined as the principal image. Prince Kaisei rebuilt it as a Buddhist temple in 774, and when it was first built, it was counted as one of the Seven High Mountains along with Mount Hiei and Mount Katsuragi as a place of imperial prayer for the Emperor. From the Kamakura period to the Warring States period, it was protected by the Ashikaga, Toyotomi, and Tokugawa families as a place where the god of war resided, and many Osaka merchants made pilgrimages across the Yodo River at that time. Even today, it continues to be a temple where prayers are never ceasing, with a daily ritual of prayer and Homa from evil spirits called "Bishamon Fudo Homa ." It is also surrounded by mountains rich in nature, and is known as a famous spot for fresh greenery in spring and autumn leaves in autumn.

今回は大阪・高槻市の北にある標高678mのポンポン山に登ります。ポンポン山は大阪府と京都府の県境に位置する山です。

背景には雪をかぶった山々が見え、関西を一望できる360°の美しい景色が楽しめます。この場所は関西の隠れた名所で、地元の人でも知らない方が多いんです。

Route Details

バスを降りた後、まず原（はら）という集落からハイキングをスタートし、神峰山寺（かぶさんじ）を訪れます。

高槻市の山間にある「ねむね山 神峰山寺」は、697年に役行者（えんのぎょうじゃ）によって創建されました。
日本で最初に毘沙門天が祀られた聖地で、本尊として3体の毘沙門天が安置されています。774年には開成皇子によって再興され、創建当初から比叡山・葛城山と並ぶ「七高山」の一つとして、天皇の祈願所に数えられていました。

鎌倉時代から戦国時代にかけては、足利家・豊臣家・徳川家に保護され、戦の神が宿る寺として信仰され、当時は多くの大阪商人が淀川を越えて参拝したといわれています。
現在も「毘沙門不動護摩」という悪鬼退散の祈祷が毎日行われ、祈りの絶えない寺院です。
また四季折々の自然に囲まれ、春の新緑・秋の紅葉の名所としても知られています。
