Environmental Friendly hiking group, using public transportation and carpooling to hiking trails throughout Marin and San Francisco counties. I have been a co-organizer through the meetup Bay area short hikes 5-8 miles for 2.5 years. I will be leading hikes with more miles and less speed. I want my hikers to enjoy their hikes, get a good workout, takes some photos and experience the beauty around them. So bring your smiles and let's hike some miles. See you on the next hike \

We will meet in the City and take bus or ferry to various trail heads in Marin Headlands, Mt Tam, and Pt Reyes Seashore. From there we start our hike.

Ferry Building to Presidio via Hills and Stairs Hike - 7.7 miles, 1200 ft elev
Ferry Building, ONE FERRY BUILDING, San Francisco, CA, USWe will be doing a moderate level one-way hike in San Francisco from the Ferry Building to the Mountain Lake Park in the Presidio. This hike is for INTERMEDIATE HIKERS only. The trek involves ascending 1,200 feet via staircases and steep paths over 7.7 miles. The route will offer magnificent views of the city as we ascend several challenging hills and staircases, including Telegraph Hill via the Filbert Steps, Russian Hill via Vallejo Street, and the Macondray Lane steps, Lombard Street Steps and Lyon Street Steps. After the hike, those interested can come for food and drinks at a bar in the Richmond.
THIS EVENT HAS A WAITLIST. DO NOT SHOW UP FOR IT UNLESS YOU HAVE RECEIVED AN EMAIL SAYING YOU CAN ATTEND. NO PLUS ONES ARE PERMITTED.
We meet at 10:00 am outside the Ferry Building and depart promptly at 10:15 am. We begin the trek by heading northwest to go up and over Telegraph Hill (295') via the Filbert steps. Next, we head west through North Beach to ascend Russian Hill (318') via the nearly vertical Vallejo Street. Turning northwest we head to the Lombard Street steps on our way to the Moscone Recreation Center for a lunch and restroom break. Continuing west we meet our next challenge, ascending the beautifully landscaped Lyon Street Steps just before we enter the Presidio. Once in the Presidio, we will take the Mountain Lake Trail, Ecology Trail, Bay Area Ridge Trail and Park Boulevard Trail to reach our destination at Mountain Lake Playground.
Bring plenty of water, snacks and lunch if you plan to eat during our break. Dress for the weather.

Level: Intermediate level. You will be expected to hike an average of 2.5 to 3.0 miles per hour.
Total Distance: 7.7 miles.
Elevation Gain: 1,200 feet (includes ascending steps).
Hiking Time: 3.5 hours (plus stops).
Pets: Although dogs are welcome on our hikes, they may not be allowed on certain trails in the Presidio. A link to the route is provided above, and you can check the trails for yourself.
Restrooms: At Ferry Building (mile 0.0), Moscone Recreation Center (mile 3.5), Paul Goode Field (mile 5.4), and Mountain Lake Park (mile 7.7).Directions
The meeting spot is outside the Ferry Building on The Embarcadero, below the clock tower.- From The Embarcadero BART Station: Walk east one block. The 38/38R Bus, 28 Bus, 14 Bus, 5 Bus, 1 Bus and N light rail also stop close by.
The hike ends at Mountain Lake Park Playground at 12th Ave and Lake St.
- To/from Mountain Lake Playground: The 38/38R Bus stops three blocks south on Geary Blvd, and the 1 Bus stops one block south on California St. Any of these buses will return you to the starting point.
Paid parking available at Four Embarcadero Center.
