-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This event will be conducted in Japanese only.
Hi!
I'm Lisa. (My detailed profile is below)
I'm a Japanese language teacher who doesn't teach Japanese, originally from Tokyo.
For convenience, I call myself a “Japanese language teacher,” but I work as a private tutor for foreigners.
I teach foreigners about politics, economics, history, and other subjects in Japanese.
【Purpose】
This event is for people who enjoy studying. However, this is not about studying for exams. Rather than studying Japanese language or JLPT, this event was planned in response to participants' requests to study history, economics, politics, and other subjects in Japanese. The purpose of this study is to enrich one's life through learning. Let's share our knowledge, experiences, and insights with one another and grow together.
【Details】
This event is modeled after the coffee houses that were popular in England in the 17th and 18th centuries.
Participants bring books, magazines, News, newspaper and their own study notes to share with other participants as the event progresses.
The topics range from business to politics, law, science, and literature.
Even people who are meeting for the first time engage in lively conversation and discussion.
For reference, we have studied and discussed the following topics so far.
●AI
●Shinsengumi
●Renewable energy
●McDonald's
●The end of the Edo period
●Yukichi Fukuzawa
●Unification Church (Moonies)
●Semiconductors
●Violent murders
●Liberal Democratic Party
●Black-and-white movies
●Electric vehicles
●World War II
●Age of Discovery
●Anpo protests
●Industrial Revolution
●Japan Self-Defense Forces
We also discuss topics generally considered taboo, such as religion and politics.
The more you learn, the more you realize how much you don't know.
Let's enjoy this insatiable thirst for knowledge!

【What is a Tutor for Foreigners?】
I tutor non-native speakers of Japanese.
My students are people who want to learn something using Japanese.
For example, I've found many foreigners who want to learn various subjects in Japanese—not Japanese itself—such as: “I want to be able to explain my country's history, economy, politics, and society in Japanese,” “I want to understand Japan as seen by Japanese people,” or “I want to study Japanese history and economics in Japanese.” I started this work to meet these needs.
My students understand what they want to learn, so they prepare their own materials.
My role is more about “supporting” than “teaching.”
Currently, I provide guidance in the following areas:
● Japanese explanations and instruction on students' own countries' history, economy, politics, etc.
● Reading Japanese literature and books written in Japanese
● Introducing Japanese companies
● Conversations about Japanese society: economy, history, politics, business, etc.
● Explaining Japanese news
● Courtroom observation
● Factory tours
● Field trips to historical sites, art museums, and museums
● Preparing for qualification exams
● Explaining Japanese anime, manga, and J-POP
● Practicing presentations in Japanese
● Japanese home cooking lessons
● Pronunciation guidance
● JLPT preparation
I also teach various other subjects, but since these are customized lessons for each student, I cannot list them precisely. I currently have over 40 students. Not a single one has the same lesson plan. Naturally, the materials differ for everyone. I find this work truly wonderful because I myself learn so much from it.
