Are you familiar with the Japanese word "Solo-katsu" (ソロ活)? It means actively choosing to do activities alone and fully enjoying your own company—whether it’s dining, traveling, or even going to amusement parks! In this event, after a fun icebreaker to see your "Solo-katsu level," we will dive into a group discussion.
Here are the 3 main questions we will explore together:
- What are the pros and cons of Solo-katsu? (When do you feel the ultimate freedom, and do you ever feel lonely or face any challenges?)
- How is "doing things alone" perceived in your home country? (Is it common to eat out or travel by yourself? How do people around you look at it?)
- Do you think Solo-katsu will increase in the future? (With more single-person services like solo-karaoke or individual booths in Japan, how do you see this trend changing our society?)
Whether you are a solo-master or prefer being with friends, let’s share our thoughts and enjoy a fun cultural exchange in Japanese!
[What to expect ]
Opinion Sharing: Share your own experiences in Japan.
Sociological Analysis: Discuss the "invisible layers" of Japanese society.

This is an advanced-level discussion conducted entirely in Japanese. (JLPT N1 recommended). No English interpretation is provided, though English terms may be used for conceptual clarity.Have you heard of "Taishoku Daiko" (退職代行)? It is a rapidly growing service in Japan where a third-party agency handles all the resignation procedures on behalf of an employee—allowing them to quit their job without ever facing their boss or stepping foot in the office again.
Traditionally, Japanese business culture has placed a high value on virtues like "Ishi no ue nimo san-nen" (enduring a tough situation for at least three years) and "Tatsu tori ato wo nigosazu" (leaving a place without causing trouble/leaving gracefully). Quitting a job used to require face-to-face apologies, thorough handovers, and a deep sense of obligation (giri).
However, the rise of job-quitting agencies is turning these traditional virtues upside down. Is this service a sign of a "collapse of workplace responsibility," or is it a "necessary shield for self-defense" in a society where leaving a job is notoriously difficult? In this advanced-level Japanese discussion event, we will dive deep into the changing dynamics of Japanese labor culture, organizational psychology, and mental health.
Key Discussion Pillars & Questions:
- The Individual Perspective: Is using a job-quitting agency "irresponsible" and "disloyal" (fugiri), or is it a justifiable act of self-defense to protect one's mental health?
- The Manager's Dilemma: How would you honestly feel if your subordinate suddenly quit using this service without a word? Shocked? Angry? Or reflective?
- The Structural Problem: Is the popularity of this service proof of toxic corporate environments and Japan's oppressive "peer pressure to stay"? Is this service a "necessary evil" for modern Japan?
Who is this event for?
- Advanced Japanese learners (N1 level or above) and native speakers who want to engage in high-level, meaningful discussions.
- Anyone interested in Japanese business culture, modern social issues, and labor rights.
- Professionals working in or with Japanese companies.
Join us for a high-level Japanese discussion to deconstruct the social structures shaping Japan today.

It is for JLPT N3 or higher. What is "Silver Democracy"?
Are you looking for an opportunity to practice your Japanese while discussing real social issues? Join our upcoming online discussion event!
Our topic for this session is "Silver Democracy" (シルバー民主主義)—a situation where policies tend to favor the elderly because of their large population and high voter turnout. This is one of the most critical challenges Japan is facing today, but how does it compare to your country?
Whether you are preparing for JLPT N3/N2 or just want to challenge yourself with stimulating conversations in a supportive environment, this event is for you!
Key Questions we will discuss:
- "If you were a politician, would you spend more of the national budget on 'children's education' or 'elderly welfare (healthcare/pensions)'? Why?"
- "Is 'Silver Democracy' a problem in your country? Or is it easier for the voices of young people to be heard?"
- "What kind of ideas do you think are needed to encourage more young people to go out and vote?"
Don't worry if your Japanese isn't perfect! We will provide a vocabulary list and supportive facilitators to help you express your ideas. Let’s learn from each other and have a meaningful discussion!

This is an advanced-level discussion conducted entirely in Japanese. (JLPT N1 recommended). No English interpretation is provided, though English terms may be used for conceptual clarity. What is the future of Japan’s work culture when "loyalty" is no longer part of the contract?
In recent years, "Spot Work" (on-demand short-term gig work) has exploded in Japan, heavily driven by apps like "Timee." Instead of binding themselves to a single company, more and more people are choosing to work for just a few hours at a time, completely free from long-term commitments and workplace politics.
While this shift offers ultimate freedom and efficiency, it raises profound questions about the core of Japanese society. Japan has long prided itself on its "Shokunin Kishitsu" (craftsmanship spirit) and world-class "Omotenashi" (hospitality)—both of which were traditionally sustained by lifelong employment, deep corporate loyalty, and long-term human relationships.
In this advanced Japanese discussion event, we will dive deep into how this new wave of gig work is reshaping the Japanese mindset, labor market, and social structures.
Key Discussion Pillars:
- The Reality of Spot Work: The rapid growth of Timee and why it’s taking over Japan now.
- Professionalism vs. Transience: Is it possible to expect "professionalism" or "loyalty" from a worker hired for just a single day?
- Despair or Smart Choice?: Does this trend represent a generation that has given up on corporate stability ("disposable labor"), or is it a highly rational, modern lifestyle choice to avoid toxic office environments?
- The Future of Japanese Quality: Will Japan’s legendary service quality and craftsmanship fade away when every job becomes systematized and easily replaceable?
Join us for a high-level Japanese discussion to deconstruct the social structures shaping Japan today.
