April show pitch workshop
Borders
Our host, Jenn, is looking for stories about borders.
A physical barricade. A social stigma. A self-imposed ideal. What borders have you had to cross? We’re looking for true, first-person stories about getting past whatever’s in your way, or at least trying your darndest to.
The *Borders* live storytelling show is on Thursday, 30th April. If you’ve got a story or just an idea in mind, come to one of our pitch workshops at the beginning of April. If your story is shortlisted for the show, our host will work with you as you polish and rehearse it.
📌 Story Requirements:
* Your story must be true
* It must be told in the first person—you are the main character
* It should be between 5-10 minutes
You don't need to have a completed or polished story ready - just a beginning idea is okay.
This workshop is open to individuals at all levels, first-timers or old hands.
The purpose of Hong Kong Stories is to help you become a better storyteller.
Everyone has a story to tell, and everyone loves a story.
Note: Please update your RSVP, ideally 12 hours before the event if you're unable to make it.
Repeated no shows will be moved to not-going / removed from the group to open up slot for people on the waitlist.

Flourishing: The Art of a Life Well-Lived
"The ultimate goal of human actions is flourishing—a life spent pursuing what truly matters."
— Aristotle
**What does it mean to truly thrive?**
Is it a feeling of inner peace amidst the chaos? A sense of purpose that guides your days? The joy of deep connection, or the quiet satisfaction of growth? This state of being—of "Flourishing"—is what we'll explore as the core of a life well-lived.
This Curious Souls Cafe gathering is an invitation to explore this timeless question together. We'll not only touch on self-care but also dive into the deeper soil of human experience—the nutrients a person need to bloom.
We'll share stories of what makes us feel most alive, discuss the barriers (both internal and external) that get in our way, and explore the practices—both ancient and modern—that help us cultivate a life of meaning, resilience, and joy.
**Come with your curiosity. Let's explore the art of flourishing, together.**
Inviting all who are...
🌱 Curious about what it means to live a life of purpose and vitality
💭 Reflecting on what "thriving" means to them, beyond just surviving
✨ Seeking inner resilience and grounding, even when facing challenges
🕊️ Interested in the wisdom traditions—from East to West—that point the way to a flourishing life
🤝 Believing that we grow best in community, sharing insights and inspiration
📅 Agenda / What You'll Experience
💬 Icebreaker Conversation Cards
We will use virtual question cards designed to help people identify their own "path" to flourishing without labeling it. Here are some sample questions.
* Describe a moment in the past month when you felt truly "alive" and engaged with life. What were you doing?
* What is one personal "seed" of potential (a skill, a quality, a dream) you feel is currently waiting to grow?
* Complete this sentence: "For me, a flourishing life has the fragrance of..."
* What is one simple, daily ritual that makes you feel grounded and whole?
* Where do you find your deepest sense of peace or connection? (e.g., in nature, in art, in silence, with certain people).
From there, we’ll embark on a respectful, engaging, and meaningful conversation, celebrating the diversity of perspectives and ideas within the group.
Note:
* This session may involve virtual question cards accessed via a link or QR code. If you do not have a device (phone/tablet) to access these, please ask a facilitator for assistance; we have spare units available.
* The exact format of the event may change depending on turnout according to [https://curioussouls.cafe/#how-to](https://curioussouls.cafe/#how-to) and other factors.
💬 Final Thoughts and Feedback
Where time allows, in the final 10 minutes of the event, we’ll take a moment to reflect on the key insights, memorable moments, and takeaways from our discussions. This is a chance to distill the shared wisdom and leave with a deeper understanding of the topics we’ve explored together.
After the event officially concludes, the group may choose to extend the session, depending on the group’s interest. Of course, you’re welcome to leave at any time that feels right for you.
An anonymized summary will be shared for sessions where key insights are identified. After the meeting, our facilitators and participants may reflect on the discussion and contribute to a summary or collaborative workbook based on their notes and observations. Additionally, questions may be revisited in future sessions in an anonymized manner. Humanist Program
The Humanist Monthly Program is our longest running event and still a community favorite. In the old days it used to be called "Going to HCCO" and we still like to think of it as our flagship event.
We will be hearing from Becca Powell, Director of Advocacy and Outreach at Unchained At Last, an organization whose mission is dedication to ending forced and child marriage in the United States through direct services and systems change. Unchained At Last's mission clearly meshes and addresses several of our Humanist Ten Commitments. Becca will educate us about an issue many of us may not be familiar with--but should be.
Food and drinks will be provided at the event. Feel free to show up a little bit early to hang out and talk.
Going forward our meetings will be hybrid. You can meet us in-person or attend online

Omnipresent Atheists Weekly Meetup (2nd Tues)
Jimmy V's Grill & Pub in Grandview Heights. You are responsible for your own meal/drinks. We usually don't have any agenda other than eat, drink and talk. :) If the weather is nice we will be on the back patio, otherwise we are in the cigar room.
This group has been meeting every Tuesday evening for over a decade. Many attendees do not RSVP on meetup. Please don't let the small number here discourage you. Anyone/everyone is welcome to come. We'd love to have you join us.
COTA bus #5 comes to W. 5th and Wyandotte Rd. And it's a minute walk to the restaurant.
***
Did you know that there are atheists everywhere?!?! You may not know it, but we are! We're in your schools, diners, police force, military, government, and some are even still in your churches! So come and join us and meet other local atheists, along with agnostics, heathens, humanists, skeptics, and anyone else who's 'hell bound'!
Vision: a Central Ohio that accepts atheism as a viable alternative in all areas of public and private life.
Mission: grow, support, and provide community for atheists in Central Ohio.
Social meetings held most Tuesdays at a local pub/restaurant at 7:00 PM (and often into the wee hours). Attendees call themselves agnostics, skeptics, humanists, non-theists, deists or even theists. All attendees are welcome but should support our vision.
Atheists of Columbus (AoC) is part of Omnipresent Atheists (OA). AoC members are invited to join this OA meetup and/or OA Facebook group ( https://www.facebook.com/groups/omnipresentatheists/ ) but are free to continue conversations on the AoC Facebook group ( https://www.facebook.com/groups/columbusatheists/ ). AoC was founded in 2012 as a networking, social group for Central Ohio area humanists, skeptics, atheists, agnostics, nonbelievers, freethinkers, and the curious. It was a member of Columbus CoR and held weekly meetings, mostly on Fridays, for several years but then operated as an online only group for some time. In November 2018, Omnipresent Atheists (OA), a group that routinely meets on Tuesdays, invited AoC to merge.
Omnipresent Atheists is a member of the Columbus Coalition of Reason (ColumbusCoR.org). Omnipresent Atheists is a member of the Columbus Coalition of Reason ( http://www.ColumbusCoR.org ). Omnipresent Atheists endorses the mission of the Secular Coalition for America ( http://secular.org ).
Tour of Brothers Drake Meadery and mead/tea tasting
Join us for a tour of Brothers Drake Meadery in Grandview, hosted by the owner Oron Benary. He will explain the mead-making process and offer us generous samples of their fine meads.
Mead is basically wine that is made from honey instead of grapes. There are many different flavors that range from dry, semi-dry, semi-sweet, to sweet. They are best known for their Apple Pie Mead.
Oron has offered us a special price of 5.00 each person for the tour and tasting, which is normally 25.00 per person. I've taken the tour several times, and it's always enlightening and fun.
Rebecca will bring a tea that will pair well with the mead for a tea tasting afterwards.
Park anywhere around the building. Please avoid parking in front of the houses in the neighborhood behind the Meadery.
Please keep your RSVP current. Knowing how many will attend will help Brothers Drake plan accordingly to accommodate us.
