Japanese meetup
All welcome. Feel free to come along at any time that suits and pull up a chair. Practice your Japanese with native speakers, exchange cultures or geek out about otaku topics. And help Japanese people with their English. No Japanese speaking ability necessary.

Zazen Meditation + Dharma talk or Kinhin
The meaning of the word zen is meditation, zazen means sitting meditation. In zazen practice we begin to know ourselves, and to go beyond the limits of our personal ego. Within our tradition zazen is referred to as shikantaza, not doing, letting go of thoughts, dropping off body and mind. This sitting meditation is the focus of our practice. Language limits our ability to communicate the true nature of zen; it is something that is better understood
through practice. We are open to everyone interested in learning about zen.
Intro workshop for newcomers is available at 5.30pm each Sunday. The dojo is a sacred place and it is important to be considerate of everyone. We have many people that travel to practise together once a week or once a month. So for that reason it is really essential that we all know the structure of the sitting practise (when to sit, how to do Kinhin, the different bell sounds and their meaning etc), to ensure a silent, safe and meaningful meditation. And it's also great to meet everyone before the sitting practise. And answer any questions you may have.
We have zafus and zabutons (mats and cushions) for all to sit on. Chairs are available too.
Comfortable clothing for sitting, black or neutral tones best.
We greatly appreciate a donation of €5 to cover costs if it's possible for you.
Please arrive 10min before start so 6ish (if you're not doing the intro workshop).
You are very welcome to our dojo!
Sunday Evening Zazen meditation
Join us for Zazen Meditation. please arrive at 6pm.
newcomers please arrive at 5.45 for an introduction to Zazen meditation.
Ward River Valley and Swords Castle walk
On Sunday 19th April we shall have a walk in the Ward River Valley to Swords Castle.
**Meeting Location**
Swords Express bus stop on Eden Quay which is next to stop 135351 and Meaghers Pub. From O'Connell St head towards the River Liffey and when you get to the river, turn left. The bus stop is a short distance on the left hand side. The Swords Express bus takes Leap Cards (please ensure you have enough credit) and is scheduled to depart at 10:45. If it's easier for you to catch a different bus to the walk's starting point then please let the organisers know.
**Route Description**
From the meeting point on Eden Quay we will take the Swords Express bus to near the Windmill Lands area of Swords from there we walk through the park and along the Ward River into Swords itself to see the historic round tower of St Columba's Church, the holy well and the lovely Swords Castle. The distance is approximately 5km. There will be time to look round the castle which is free to visit. After maybe a cup of tea or a pint of beer, we will take the bus back into Dublin.
Or alternatively if people wish, we could have a further walk to Malahide Station via the lovely Malahide Estuary. This is approximately a further 5.5km.
Some paths can be a little muddy, but the chosen route should avoid the worst sections. If it's dry and warm enough, we'll probably have a picnic in the park. There are no shops on the walk, but there are many shops, cafés and pubs in Swords itself.
\*\*\* If you wish to wander off during a break then it's probably OK but please agree with the organisers a time you'll return so we're not waiting for you \*\*\*
We hope to see you there!
Feel free to come on the walk even if you haven't been to a meet up before. This is a great way to meet new people and see new places.
**\*\*\* Important, please click on Attend if you wish to join this event. If you can no longer make it then please change your RSVP or send a message. Don't be a no-show - the organisers reserve the right to remove people from the group who have multiple no-shows. \*\*\***
Host: Tim (085 718 5658) On the day of the event, if you need to contact the organiser then please send a WhatsApp message is the best way. Before the day you can send a message via Whatsapp or leave a message below.
FAQs
1. Is there a charge for this event? No, this is a free event. Sometimes we have events that involve a visit to a museum or garden with an entrance fee - but this will be clearly marked in the details
2. Is it OK for people on a short visit to Ireland to join this walk? Yes both visitors and residents alike are welcome to join our walks.
3. How easy/difficult is this walk? Most walking groups would classify this as an easy walk, but having a reasonable level of fitness is recommended.
4. Why are there only a limited number of places for this event? To ensure the best possible experience for the people attending it is necessary to limit the numbers, especially as the chosen route may not be straightforward and along narrow paths.
5. Why is it necessary to book on this event if you wish to attend? This is because there are only a limited number of spaces (see point above) and to ensure the fairest allocation of spaces, we kindly request everyone to book a place. It's OK to change your mind about coming but please change your RSVP as soon as you have for someone else to take the place if they wish to.
PLEASE NOTE: Walking like many outdoor activities carries an element of risk. People who take part in our meet up activities do so at their own risk and are responsible for their own actions and involvement. If you register to join our meet up walks you agree that you wish to take part in the activities despite these risks.
Please wear boots, shoes or runners that you find comfortable, provide suitable support and have good grip as some of the paths may be uneven or steep. It is also recommended to bring water to avoid dehydration. Bring warm clothes and a waterproof jacket or umbrella in case of inclement weather.

Let’s play... Ars Magica / Agon / The Quiet Year
Join us every Sunday and tell a story as a group by playing a beginner-friendly roleplaying game. Every week we have 2-3 different games - you will choose which game you play on the day. All materials provided and rules are explained at the start of each game, you just need to bring your imagination.
🎭 **This week's facilitators:**
* 🧙 **Dave** with *[Ars Magica](https://www.atlas-games.com/arsmagica/)*, a game about magi in a mythic version of medieval Europe shaped by hidden magic, ancient traditions, and rival powers. In the wild frontiers of the Slavic lands, a child has vanished into the forest. Branded a witch by some, sought as a prodigy by others, he is now hunted from all sides. You’ll follow his trail through shifting woods and uneasy villages, caught between rival factions, a ruthless magus seeking an apprentice, and armed bands closing in. The forest itself resists you: spirits mislead, paths twist, and nothing is quite what it seems. Expect investigation, tense roleplay, moral choices, and possible combat. Who do you trust? And when the hunters arrive, what will you do with the boy?
* 🐍 **Adam** with *[Agon](http://www.agon-rpg.com/)*, where you play mythic Bronze Age heroes cast adrift by the gods and sailing from island to island, searching for home and competing for glory. On the island of Nimos, the funeral of the king's son is underway, alongside ceremonial games of hand-to-hand combat in his honour. But the fighters are twisted into savagery by strange elixirs, and the land itself appears poisoned. Will you discover the source and true nature of this dangerous alchemy?
* **🏘️ Filip** with *[The Quiet Year](https://buriedwithoutceremony.com/the-quiet-year)*, a GM-less, dice-less game of narrative and worldbuilding. Who... who's there at the horizon? Is that fairies? Orcs? Fairy-orcs? Demons?! Surely not demons... Whoever they are (or will be) - they need a quiet year. You play as a medium-sized community of - well, whatever we collectively decide, to tell their story over a year in a new place entirely.

Seapoint on Sunday
Join us for a swim at Seapoint on Sunday @ 12p.m.
Regulars and newcomers are welcome to join us. You have the option to swim, paddle around and have a chat, or just dip your toes, the choice is yours. We recommend that you don't stay in the water too long as it's still quite cold this time of year, and please stay within your debt - we do look out for each other but we are not lifeguards. And remember to bring warm clothes for after the swim and keep warm, and maybe a hot drink too..
**We meet at the Lifeguard hut on Brightonvale road, or if it's raining we will meet at the shelters.**
Afterwards we usually go for a coffee at cafe du journel - join us if you want to, the option is yours. Look forward to seeing you all there.
reviving gardans, Growing community
**Hands in the Soil: Community Growing, Learning & Craic**
This first gathering will be a relaxed mix of **hands-on garden work, shared learning, and good conversation**. It’s about getting together in a real space, doing something practical, and seeing what ideas and connections might grow from there.
On the day, we’ll:
* Get our **hands dirty** with some light garden work and soil prep
* Do some **seed sowing** and talk about what grows well locally
* **Make kombucha together** and chat about fermentation, food, and simple home practices
* Share knowledge, questions, and experiences around growing food
* Enjoy some **fellowship, chats, and a bit of craic** along the way.Alongside the practical side, we’ll also have an open, informal discussion about a bigger idea:
* The possibility of **small community “park farms” or gardens** in underused green spaces around Dublin
* What that might look like, what’s realistic, and whether others feel drawn to exploring it further
There’s no pressure, no expertise required, and no expectation beyond showing up with curiosity and a willingness to pitch in. Whether you’re experienced with gardening or completely new, you’re very welcome.
Bring clothes you don’t mind getting muddy, and if you have them, gloves. Everything else will be very low-key.
This is just a **first step** — a chance to meet, work, talk, and see if there’s a shared appetite to keep growing something together.
