Festivus For The Rest Of Us!
Please join members of the Fairlington Social Club as we celebrate "Festivus" on Tuesday December 23, 2025 at Guapo's Mexican restaurant located at 4028 Campbell Avenue Arlington, VA 22206 starting at 5:00 PM.
"Festivus" is your heritage - it's part of who you are!
The five tenets of "Festivus" are:
* "Festivus Pole"
* "Festivus Dinner"
* "Airing of Grievances"
* "Feats of Strength"
* "Festivus Miracle"
We will begin by quaffing margaritas and enjoying chips & salsa (no double dipping) while admiring the "Festivus Pole" comprised of aluminum with a very high strength-to-weight ratio.
After celebrating the "Festivus Dinner", yada... yada... yada... we will continue the quaffage while engaging in practices such as the "Airing of Grievances" and the "Feats of Strength."
If you have not yet finished your Christmas Shopping, celebrate a "Festivus Miracle" by making a donation to "The Human Fund" in the name of someone in lieu of buying them a Christmas gift.
Yama-Hama! "Happy Festivus!"
"Festivus" is always celebrated on December 23rd.
Why December 23rd you ask?
You have family & friends coming into town to visit you for Christmas, therefore you need a drink!
You are leaving town for Christmas to visit family & friends, therefore you need a drink!

And remember... Until you pin me, "Festivus" is not over.
Serenity now!

Let's Meetup and walk at the US Arboretum! On Leash ** Park at Asian collection
Let's join Sarah and Willow for this fun Christmas Eve meetup. Meet at the Asian Collection Parking at 9 a.m. and plan to go on about a 1.5hr walk.
Time: 9 a.m. - 11:00ish a.m. Please plan on extra time to get to the parking lot once you enter the arboretum. It is on the opposite side of the arboretum from the main parking and about a 5 min drive.
(The gate to the river open at 8:30 if anyone wants to meet early for some off leash play).
Location: Asian Collection Parking area (this is a small lot by the Asian Collection and Dogwoods, not the main parking area). If the lot is full you can park just a little ways away at the Dogwood Collection
The walk starting at 9am with be on-leash .
If anyone wants to go to river for some off leash play first, the gate opens at 8:30. If no one else is around, those who are comfortable can let their dogs run around off-leash in a big field for 10 -15min.
At 9am we will meet near the Asian collection parking and do an on-leash big loop around the arboretum. Since it's the holidays, during the walk we will visit then evergreen and holly collections. Our half way point will be at the old Capitol Columns. There we will take a water break and take some pictures. After the break we can walk back to the parking area, or for those who'd like to stay longer there are many other areas to explore! This will be a mix of walking on pavement and on dirt/grass.

Quantum Leap - Amazing 80's music band - Thats Amore -Rockville
All:
We saw this group Rio (Gaithersburg) and two weeks ago in Ellicott City. They are amazing and they love our group. The band starts at 7:30. There is a $10 cover charge. Edward will be hosting this and be point of contact. Thanks Edward for hosting! Edward will have his other meetup group there also. Edward has table reservations for the group, look for Edward
Address is: 15201 Shady Grove Rd #1, Rockville, MD 20850
Quantum Leap is the name of a professional 80s-tribute band from the Washington, D.C. area that performs dance, pop, rock, and R&B hits from that decade. The band is known for its high-energy performances and aims to keep crowds dancing all night by playing hits from artists like Michael Jackson, Madonna, Bon Jovi, and others
A DC meetup at Dumbarton Oaks
PawsUP for David and Brick for originally suggesting this awesome meetup and our dogs love it!
-Dumbarton Oaks/Montrose Park in Georgetown
-Meet at the entrance off of R st, on the East side (closer to the cemetery)
-Plenty of street parking in the area
-Bring water and a ball for your Aussie
This park is a very large open field, that is very dog friendly. Tons of space to run and chase. Most if not all dogs are off leash. Occasional runners and kids (there is a playground), so keep that in mind. There is also a trail inside with a stream that the dogs love to play in.
Retro/Modern Video Gaming Meetup: Secret Samus Edition!!!
It's that time of year again! Time to celebrate the season, and for the yearly appearance of the Santa Dragon!
We will be doing our usual Secret Samus this year, but as always, participation is optional. Those who wish to participate can bring a wrapped gift. We ask that you don't break the bank on the gift keeping it around $10 to $20 dollars. You are also welcome to bring a couple extra gifts as well for those who might not be able to get one. It is the time of giving after all.
We are also going to be doing a potluck again like we did for Gamesgiving last month. Like Secret Samus, participation is also optional. Those who do take park you can bring a side dish, snacks, dessert or drinks. Also like Secret Samus you don't have to break the bank or your back for your side dish. We will be cooking a ham as the main course along with mashed potatoes and a green bean casserole. To prevent too many of one dish we'll start a thread in our discord channel to coordinate eats.
Here's hoping you'll join us!
Normal details follow:
Vaccine verification will be made via either presentation of your Vaccine card at the door, or a photo of the updated card posted to the vaccine channel of the group Discord.
Masks are now optional.
Our setup, as it's currently configured, should allow for even better social distancing than we had before, with the secondary gaming area in a completely different room.
We've got a decently sized collection of systems ranging from the old 8-16 bit days, on through to all the current systems, including the PS5, Wii U, Nintendo Switch, Ouya, PS4 Pro, Xbox One, PC, Nvidia Shield TV, Evercade VS, and even an Amiga 1200, as well as a decent number of controllers. Please bring any Wii U pro, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, or PS4 controllers you have though, as we could use those, and any games that people might bring would also be welcome. We have a second and third screen with classic consoles and a spare PS4, and have some streaming from our PC, thanks to our Steam Link. We also have an arcade cab, filled to the brim with games! It's also got HDMI inputs. If you have a system you would like to bring along, please do so! Here's hoping to see you all here!!!
Run and Get Dirty! Adult Dogs in the main park, puppies in the small dog park
Our regular Sunday meetup at the Shirlington Dog Park -- members start arriving around 10:15 a.m. You'll always find an Aussie to play with. There are 3 entrances, so wander the park -- the dogs will find each other!
For puppies, Shirlington has a small dog park within the larger dog park. It's the prefect place for your puppy to gain confidence and socialize with others. There is also plenty of room to run.
Just a reminder, the Dog Park is under attack by the Arlington County Board of Commissioners. While early plans to decrease the size of the park by 50% has been tabled, it's important to remind Arlington County how important this park is to dogs and owners. Here are links to the change.org petition and the Facebook page where you can get updates.
