Every epic begins with a spark in darkness—from Prometheus stealing fire to the flash-bang explosion that produced Professor Utonium's Powerpuff Girls. Spring is here, bringing a season of new growth and change. To celebrate its arrival, we invite you to join the Creative Friendship Lab in exploring how you got started—as a writer, as a human being. Whether you're still in your chrysalis or feel like you're spreading your butterfly wings, it never hurts to have a moment of appreciation for time spent spent caterpillar-dreaming. It really makes a difference. **Creative Friendship Lab's Session-Based Structure** This is a group designed to incubate close creative friendships. We run themed sessions that last 2-4 weeks of small, interconnected workshops and events. If you come to our sessions, you will get to know your creative cohort very well over a short time period. You will do cool work and make new friends who like to write, draw, take photos, etc. Your session cohort will also have the opportunity to join a Signal thread just for people in that session. The link will only be shared at in-person events for that session. And the thread will be closed and archived after the session ends. The session thread is designed to let people from the session keep in touch during their workshop period. The thread closes to encourage people to carry out individual connections away from the pressures of a continuing group dynamic. However, each event will also be able to stand on its own! So you should feel free to come by whenever, regardless of your attendance at prior events. We welcome first-timers always :-) Members are free to drop in and out of the Lab. This easy hike in the north Austin Wells Branch neighborhood is on a smooth, mostly flat paved/crushed granite trail that goes through parkland and neighborhoods. It is usually lovely in the spring. The hike will be about 4 miles long and take 1.5 - 2 hours. Parts of it are shaded and parts are in the sun. You can get there from I 35 or MOPAC. We will meet in the small parking lot at **MILLS POND PARK, 15108 Wells Port Drive. WARNING: It is easy to miss the park entrance. Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. The topic for April is "Water" Speak Easy: true stories, told live. The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast. Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect. The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills. We strongly encourage tellers to please tell the story rather than read it so we keep within the spirit of good storytelling and stay engaged with the audience. All are welcome.
