Korean Learners' 1st 식구 Dinner
Hello everyone! Nice to meet you 😊
This is the first event I’m hosting on Meetup.com,
but we’ve already had four small coffee chats, so this will be our fifth meetup for Korean learners.
This time, I’m trying something a little different, a combination of a study group and a dinner gathering.
For this event, first-time attendees will be joining the dinner table,
and as you become a regular, you’ll also be able to join the study group sessions.
The location is still TBD and will be announced soon.
**It’s free to join, but everyone will pay for their own food or drinks.**
***
**\*\* What is “식구 (食口)”?**
“식구 (Sigoo)” means “family” in Korean.
It literally comes from Chinese characters meaning “people who share meals together.”
You can see how important sharing a meal is in Korean culture.
So this time, why don’t we sit at the same table, share a meal,
and get to know each other through Korean learning?
Saturday Writing Meetup – near Bloor-Yonge
\*\*NOTE: This meetup currently lacks a regular host. (The current hosts are volunteers for online organizational purposes; they show up in person occasionally.) If you arrive and there is no host, don’t worry. Whoever is the longest-running member (or whoever wants to) can set the timer for the writing session. In this way, the meetup is self-sustaining, and not dependent on any one person. Thanks for your understanding.\*\*
Join us for an hour of quiet writing, followed by an hour of (optional) socializing.
\*\*SILENT WRITING BEGINS AT 1:15 PM. IF YOU'RE LATE, WELCOME! WE WILL IGNORE YOU (BECAUSE WE'RE BUSY WRITING) UNTIL 2:15 PM.\*\*
This meetup is open to everyone, whether you’re writing a novel, blog, class paper, or journal entry—or something completely different. Anyone interested is welcome to attend :)
LOCATION:
5 Elements Cafe, basement level
RSVP:
Please be advised that seating is first-come, first-served, even if you have RSVP'd. Seats are not reserved and we can't control how many other people are in the cafe.
We recommend coming down to the basement to grab a spot before you buy anything, just in case.
SCHEDULE:
1:00 to 1:15 PM: Arrive and get settled in.
1:15 to 2:15 PM: Write in silence for an hour.
\*\*If you arrive after 1:15, please silently find your own place to sit. We'll welcome you to join the group at 2:15.\*\*
2:15 PM: Introduce yourself.
We'll go in a circle; just say your name and 1–2 sentences about what you're writing.
(E.g., "I'm Rudolph and I'm writing a non-fiction book about reindeer.")
2:20 PM onwards: Chill/leave.
Chat, hang out, keep writing if you want, leave whenever.
Pottery Night: Clay, Creativity & Community
Pottery Night at Orkid Gallery! All tools included. No experience needed—just come create, connect & sip tea with us! 3-hour workshop.
♠️ ♥️ Trix & Tarneeb Night ♦️ ♣️
**First Meetup: Trix & Tarneeb Night**
Come join us for a relaxed evening of cards, good company, and great beverages! Whether you're a seasoned Trix player, a Tarneeb devotee, or just curious about these beloved card games, you're welcome at the table.
We'll be gathering at a local café to shuffle up, deal out, and enjoy some friendly competition over coffee and bites. This is all about having fun and connecting with fellow card game enthusiasts — no pressure, no scorekeeping, just good vibes.
Come with friends or come solo – you'll be put together in groups of 4! Bring yourself, bring a friend, and get ready to play!
**What to expect:**
* Casual games of Trix and Tarneeb throughout the evening
* A welcoming crowd of all skill levels
* Great café atmosphere with food and drinks on hand
* A chance to meet people who share your love of cards
New to the games? No worries — experienced players will be happy to walk you through the rules.
See you there!

https://wych.ca/menu *Support our host venue; buy a drink!*
This is a cool underworld bar, (Entrance down the stairs) and small enough so you can get to know the patrons and other attendees and get to sing a couple of times. The Wych makes some excellent cocktails, and has many non-alcoholic offerings as well.
**Public Transit Directions:**
On Subway Line 1: You can get off at Eglington West and take the 63A southwards
On Subway Line 2: You can get out at Ossington and take the 63A northwards.
The stop should be Davenport/Ossington.
If in Liberty village or in in between just take the 63A all the way to Davenport and forget the subway. If you're in the south core, take Line 1 to Dupont or Spadina stations and take the 127 bus west to Davenport/Ossington. If on St Clair streetcar line (512) you can take that to Winona drive and walk south.
