🔶Description:
Let's experience a worship service in a historical building. It is a building that normally requires a fee to enter, so just being able to view it is valuable. Also, it seems that the performance of the new pipe organ can be heard.
Point 1: Waseda Hoshien (Service Center) A public interest incorporated foundation established based on Christian principles, with over 100 years of history. Located near Waseda University, it provides a place for human education and international exchange for a wide range of people, including adults, not just students and youth. Historically, it has cooperated with Waseda University; in the past, the "Waseda International Academy," which provided Japanese language education for Nisei (second-generation Japanese immigrants) and international students, was opened on its premises. In recent years, it has also played a role in the university's internationalization by opening international student dormitories.
Point 2: Scott Hall Constructed in 1921 as the symbol of Waseda Hoshien, it is a Tokyo Selected Historical Building. It is an auditorium with a beautiful red brick exterior and excellent acoustics. Currently, it is used as the sanctuary of the United Church of Christ in Japan, Waseda Church. Inside, it is equipped with an authentic pipe organ installed in 2019 by Peter Meyer of Switzerland to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Hall's dedication. This organ is used to accompany hymns during worship and in concerts, adding solemn and rich sound to the hall's historical space and supporting its role as a base for culture and faith activities in Waseda.
Point 3: Waseda Church Its predecessor was the "Waseda Hoshien Shin-ko Kyokai" (Waseda Hoshien Faith and Fellowship Association), a Baptist-affiliated church led by Missionary Benninghoff, one of the founders of Waseda Hoshien. This association and the student dormitory "Yu-ai Gakusha" (Fraternal Learning Center) together became the source of Hoshien. Worship services are held every Sunday at Scott Hall.
We would like to take a walk to feel the history of Waseda Hoshien and participate in the worship service of Waseda Church held at Scott Hall. Non-Christians are also welcome. We will also sing hymns with the beautiful pipe organ (listening is also OK).
