An Okinawa-born artist who writes and composes her own music and choreographs her dance performances, she captivates audiences with her soulful vocals and high-energy stage presence. Her lyrics blend romance with raw honesty, and her sound—rooted in funk, R&B, and hip-hop—transcends genre, delivering an addictive musical experience that draws listeners in.
NENE also creates her own artwork and actively updates her social media with short collaborative videos featuring her original tracks and guest artists. Her visual style and video content have earned widespread acclaim both in Japan and abroad.
~ Kiwako Ashimine ~
Kiwako Ashimine is a singer-songwriter and producer from Okinawa, Japan.
In 2015, she won both the Grand Prix and the Audience Award at Yamaha’s nationwide “Music Revolution” competition, standing out among 4,522 groups and 10,127 participants.
With a voice that lingers in the memory, an artistic sound that balances beauty and intensity, and commanding live performances, Kiwako Ashimine is an artist to watch as she continues to captivate audiences on a growing global stage.
In 2016, she performed the theme song “Wasuriji no Kotonoha” for Square Enix’s popular game Grimms Notes. The official MV and countless cover videos uploaded to YouTube have collectively surpassed 100 million views, and the song continues to resonate with game fans across borders to this day.
After relaunching her career as an independent artist in 2021, she began releasing self-written and self-produced songs, which were quickly picked up by major playlists across music streaming platforms. Her 2nd EP “Hōyō” (Warm Embracement), released in 2024,
garnered major attention when it was chosen as the cover feature for Amazon Music’s BREAKTHROUGH JAPAN, a playlist spotlighting the next generation of artists.
That same year, she won the audition program “RINGOOO A GO-GO” and performed at Ringo Music Festival, a cross-genre event where emerging and established artists share the stage. She went on to win the festival’s annual Go-Go Award Grand Prix,
and is scheduled to return to the festival again this year. While steadily building her presence on the Japanese festival circuit, Kiwako Ashimine has also been expanding internationally.
She has performed twice at Music Lane Festival in Okinawa, a global showcase event, further establishing herself as an artist with international ambitions. Beyond her sound, she is also known for the high quality of her music videos, which have been praised for their visual artistry and cinematic storytelling, attracting audiences both in Japan and abroad.
She is currently working on her forthcoming album, slated for release in 2026. Centered on her creative pillars of Human, Spirit, and Nature, the new project focuses on Human—exploring desire, emotion, and instinct through music.
