Heracles: Strength and Its Myths
詳細
Heracles (Hercules), the great hero of Greek myth, was known for his extraordinary strength. For the Stoics, he was an emblem of courage and endurance. The myths, however, also include moments of madness and breakdown of self-control.
In this session, we use the many dimensions of Heracles’ myth as a starting point to explore what true courage and strength might look like today.
A printout will be provided, including short extracts from Seneca, Epictetus, Xenophon, and Euripides. No preparation or previous knowledge is required.
**Please note the time and venue.** It is a simple meeting room, but there are vending machines in the centre, so you may want to bring some change so that you can get a drink.
There is a waitlist, so if you need to change your reservation, please do so promptly to allow others enough notice to attend.
The group is non-religious and apolitical, focusing on practical philosophy.
