About us
Tokyo Stoics meet to discuss the practical teachings of Stoicism and how to apply them to our daily lives. This ancient philosophy helps us develop tranquility, resiliency and "eudaimonia" (happiness and human flourishing).
The group is secular and apolitical.
Each meeting will have a brief introduction in English for those new to Stoicism. All are welcome.

Cato: Does Virtue Compromise?

Known for his integrity, courage, and refusal to compromise, the Stoic senator Cato became a controversial and much-discussed figure among later Stoics.
In this session, we'll read and discuss short passages about the challenges and thorny dilemmas Cato faced, considering integrity, courage, compromise, and practical wisdom, and how these questions apply to our everyday lives.
A printout will be provided, including short extracts about Cato and passages by Stoic philosophers on related themes. No preparation or previous knowledge is required.
