세부 정보

Hong Sin-Cha’s Arirang (please take time to read the following to the end).

From Labyrinth to Arirang
Fifty years after the release of Labyrinth (Migung)Hong Sin-Cha returns with a bold new vocal and narration performance!

The Labyrinth (미궁, Migung)—a groundbreaking avant-garde masterpiece composed and premiered by Hwang Byung‑ki in 1975, marking its 50-year anniversary in 2025!
🎼 Migung (The Labyrinth) — A Pioneering Masterpiece

  • Premiered in 1975 at the Contemporary Music Festival "Space 75" in Seoul, organized under the International Society of Contemporary Music.
  • A radical fusion of gayageum, human voice, and modern choreography—featuring avant-garde dancer Hong Sin‑Cha, chanting, bowing the gayageum as if played with a cello bow, and spoken-text interludes.

If Labyrinth was an experimental collaboration with a Korean music master, Arirang is a fresh genre experiment with five unique musicians, weaving together dance and sound, voice and instrument.
From guitar to ajaeng, Eastern and Western instruments blend into new harmonies of Arirang.
This performance is a genre-defying fusion led by Korea’s first avant-garde dancer, Hong Sin-Cha, who continues to perform at the age of 86.

Modernizing Arirang
A Rebirth of Arirang: A bold reinterpretation of tradition through Hong Sin-Cha’s unique artistic lens.
A lyrical, poetic, and even rock-infused transformation of Korea’s most iconic folk song.
This Arirang expresses the full spectrum of human emotions—sorrow, tragedy, pain, joy, ecstasy, and catharsis—capturing the joys and sorrows (hee-ro-ae-rak) of the Korean people and their shared history.

Globalizing Arirang
A cross-time journey from the late Goryeo Dynasty to the present—Arirang has never lost its vitality.
This project begins in Damyang, where Hong Sin-Cha resides, and will travel to the DMZ and beyond, spreading across the globe.
Through performances at the DMZ, a symbol of the world’s only divided nation, Arirang seeks to connect South and North Korea, the Korean Peninsula and the world, division and reconciliation.
With the DMZ as a symbolic space of peace, Hong Sin-Cha delivers a poignant message to all those suffering from war and conflict—from Ukraine and Russia to Israel-Palestine and Israel-Iran.
