March 31, 1943. It’s the premiere of Oklahoma!, the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical. Lorenz Hart, Rodgers’ former partner, watches his personal and professional life unravel as the show triumphs. Haunted by regret and alcohol, he has one last chance to reignite his collaboration with Rodgers. In Blue Moon, Richard Linklater shows how a single night can forever change the lives of some of America’s greatest songwriters, set to their iconic music.
Together, Hart and Rodgers wrote 28 musicals and over 500 songs, including timeless classics like Blue Moon and My Funny Valentine. While Rodgers goes on to form a legendary duo with Hammerstein after Oklahoma!, Hart’s life ends just months later at 48. Blue Moon is directed by Oscar-nominated Richard Linklater (Boyhood) and features a stellar cast: Ethan Hawke, Margaret Qualley, Andrew Scott, and Bobby Cannavale. The film had its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival.
